Call of Duty 4 Mac-bound in May
Macworld is reporting that Aspyr is bringing the addictive Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to the Mac (apparently Aspyr is unfazed by Mike S's ardent condemnations). Having played the game extensively on the Xbox 360 I can say with confidence that fans of first person shooters on the Mac are in for a treat. Unlike the previous games in the series it has a contemporary setting in Russia and the Middle East for the intense single-player campaign, as well as some of the best online multiplayer available.Details are limited but Call of Duty 4 is expected in May (only six months after its console and PC release!)

Awesome! I think now that Apple has introduced mid-range GPU's and other Graphic APU's, that it's finally realizing the Mac platform has matured in the 'mainstream' and can begin to introduce it's user base to the videogaming community.
Personally, I finally decided on the Mac platform when 'Age of Empires 3' was announced, and 'Call of Duty 4' should add to that momentum of interest. Apple needs this segment to grow it's user base.

I've given up on gaming on the mac. If I want to play some game now, I'll just create a bootcamp partition and play it there instead of waiting months for a port that isn't gonna be as smooth as the windows version anyway.

Who says it'll be a port?
EA have ported all their games, and yes they are a royal pain in the butt (i really think it's a shame, people pay money for that stuff). Call Of Duty has been on the mac before, no ports. Why would this one be?

Aspyr does ports of games. and then charges way more for their games than you can get them for on the PC.
like the above poster, i'll just stick with bootcamp or parallels for games on the mac. i'm not going to pay $70-$80 for an Aspyr port that doesn't work as well or as smooth as the $40 Windows version that i can still run on a mac.

@ cozart...
$70-80??? Where are you buying your games? Even PS3 and 360 titles don't cost that much!

This can't be true. Macs don't run video games. :P

I've been rooting for Mac gaming for years, but I have to agree...it's dead. I fault Apple and developers. I fault Apple for not making it a priority--see John Carmack's recent comments about working with Apple to release Mac versions of his games. I fault developers for generally picking poor titles to release and delays in releases, buggy software, etc.
I created a Boot Camp partitition, installed XP, and off I go. I'm in no better a boat than the PC guys, but I'm no worse off, either. Probably won't be buying Call of Duty 4 for the Mac--I'm already 5-Star Commander rank on my PC version of the game, and I'd rather not start all over again. Besides, a conversion will probably take a performance hit, and I need every bit of horsepower I can to run CoD4 on my 2.33 MacBook Pro.

I agree Mac has to get it's stuff together! They are WAY behind! Creative???? Please Mac!!! Get with the program! They're commercials say that PC is for Business software, the truth is: Mac can not compete!!!! When it comes to gaming!!!

I don't know how Mac Games are going to survive now that Windows can be run on a Mac...my friend says he'll still support the Mac effort for COD4 simply b/c he doesn't have to re-boot into Windows (lol, what a lazy bastard).
Anyhow, mod tools are probably never going to make it to the mac version, so as soon as the PC version goes on sale, I'll likely pick that up instead.
