Early 10.5.2 reports: some users having wireless issues

As the wanton, reckless eager early adopters of Mac OS X 10.5.2 begin to explore the update's new features and fixes, a few folks are running into a WiFi buzzsaw. Some D-Link and Westell router users have noted on Apple's support boards that their 802.11n connections are failing to authenticate post-10.5.2. Dropping the router back to 802.11g seems to straighten things out. Macfixit concurs, with user reports of ongoing wireless problems.

Considering that Apple's own Airport Extreme has come in for some criticism over the past months for dropping connections (in some cases prompting radical solutions), and that 10.5.2 has wireless fixes listed among the changes, it's both unsurprising and disappointing that the upgrade hasn't gone more smoothly for WiFi users. If you're running 10.5.2 and seeing problems with wireless, let us know below.

Thanks Scott & Greg.

I think apple knows what is going on but are pretending not to so ass to save their asses from potential legal issues.

My buddy got a new MacBook Pro to replace his ageing iBook. He also got a Time Capsule. Right out of the box there were connection problems with - very slow downloads and dropped connections at random times. Went back and downgraded back to firmware 7.3 - still had problems with HIS computer.
I took my 1 yr old MBP to his house and it has a fast, flawless wireless connection. Sitting right NEXT to his MBP which is sloooow, mine was zippy - same router, same cordless phones nearby, same network configuration as far as I could tell. Something is different w/his system or hardware.

I should say we downgraded his firmware to 7.2.1 without improvement. Tried disabling IPv6 0 no improvement. Brought his new MBP to my house and it worked perfectly - fast downloads, no dropped connections.
Could either of these be factors:
1. the copy process from his iBook to the MBP could copy settings that are not optimal for this faster router (Time Capsule), or
2. The iBook or neighbors' wireless routers could be causing channel interference?

Any suggestions welcome.

I've had this problem a few weeks since one of the updates to Leopard - new macbook which came with Leopard, router is fine and windows can connect no problem, macbook loses the connection all the time. Updated router firmware, tried all sorts of other recipes found by Googling, all to no effect. Today I found the solution. Log into your router, and force it to use 802.11g or b rather than automatic selection or 802.11n. That fixed it immediately. Looks like a recent Leopard upgrade has a dodgy 802.11n driver incompatibility.

Nah, I have a Linksys 802.11g router (not n) and having the same issues. It's not specifically an 802.11n issues, unless the issue is on the computer side. I have a MBP 17" with the n-card.

I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for weeks now. I have a new 2.6 MB Pro. In the beginning the wifi was working flawlessly, until I decided to make some changes on my Belkin G router. Then all of sudden, my wi-fi would drop intermittently. Now everytime I first boot the machine up, I get a "cannot connect" message, even before I launch Firefox or Safari. I seem to experience less drops in Safari then Firefox as well. I'm so close to calling Apple up to see what's going on here.

I have first Macbook Pro and Yes I have had same problems since Leopard 10.5.1 - Tiger didn't have this problem once - now I have to be within 2 meters of wireless plug to get reception. and even then its not full reception sometimes. I was hoping 10.5.2 would fix it - it did a small bit but still not working. Funny enough my older Powerbook on 10.5.2 works fine as does my friends one.
Please sort it out Apple - its the biggest and most annoying problem I've ever had on one of your machines. Remember your Mac, not Windows.
Let's all hope for another software update soon

Same issues, Airport seems to arbitrarily start scanning on an irregular basis (way too frequently) and dropping the wireless connection.

Similar problem here with my macbook 2.0Ghz. Had the same problem earlier during 10.4.10 and 10.4.11 but went away when updated to Leopard and then 10.5.1. 10.5.2 seemed to have reverted the wi-fi situation to the non-functional state. I get full signal but I can't connect to any webpages. The problem would come and go at random. But this only happens when I'm on battery power. Everything works flawlessly when connected to AC power.

My PowerBook Titanium DVI stopped authenticating to the Wireless D-Link Router when I installed 10.5 onto it. iMac still authenticates and PB still can authenticate to other wireless routers, it just can't authenticate to D-Link (b, g & n). This is CLEARLY a 10.5 issue, I have no doubt in my mind, the 10.5 installation basically refused to work with it after a first post-install reboot. Works fine with Actiontec (g).
