Caterpillar introduces customization on the iPhone
Many of you have no doubt noticed that there hasn't been much happening over at unsanity since the release of Leopard broke their haxie "Application Enhancers." Well, apparently some of the developers behind unsanity are now banking on the iPhone instead with a new "Mobile Enhancer" technology called Caterpillar.Basically, Caterpillar adds customization options to a jailbroken iPhone. At present the tools include a Smart Dialer, customized wallpaper with calendar, customized SpringBoard backgrounds (the home page) and more. Interestingly, they're planning to offer the package on a subscription model and it will be "constantly growing as [they] add new tools and functionality."
The Caterpillar package is available now by adding their repository to Installer.app on a jailbroken iPhone. The service will run $20 for six months, $35 for 12 months, or $45 a non-expiring license. Of course, you jailbreak your iPhone at your own risk; I have not tested this myself.

If it was an official application with a flat purchase price, some of these would be nice. Otherwise YOU have to do the work to hack your iphone to install said hacked applications on your device. They have yet to say if they will refund your money if you are unable to use your application subscription after you update to a newer firmware that may make it impossible to use these applications.
check that, and that its an unsanity related flakeware then realize how slow the actual updates will come.. if they come at all.
Okay this is the greatest software ever.... My biggest gripe was the damn SMS popup notifications, and since last month I got over 70,000 SMS' on my iPhone it becomes a pain when they keep popping up when you are surfing, emailing, calling, etc.
I paid the $20 just b/c I know eventually they will make it work with the SDK , but for the sms supress popup feature it is worth the $45.
Expensive for privacy? heh it's mean, that your wife never read sms from your girlfriend! ;)
February 24 2008 at 10:40 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt works for me and the support is OK till now. Sure, it's expensive, but if you don't need it, don't buy it, it's such simple...
February 24 2008 at 8:00 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't see any links to unsanity either.
Anyway, this looks like a crappy product for a large cost.
Sounds like Caterpillar's business model is "take the money and run"! If they're honest they ought to join the BBB Online.
