A lot of us here in Huntsville are looking forward to this store's opening. Bridgestreet is actually an upscale open air mall developed by an LA based company and the Apple store will be a good fit.
Honestly, I think this should have been Alabama's first Apple store as Huntsville is already home to a larger than normal population of technically minded and wired families. You don't exchange phone number here, you exchange email addresses.

The people at MacResource are jerks, never want to help, and never call to let you know when stuff is fixed, and all around just seem pissy you are in "their" store looking at "their" Macs. An actually Apple Store will be great.

I agree about Mac Resource. I've never before been in a store where the employees seem so determined NOT to sell to customers. This has happened on multiple occasions, with multiple employees.
When I was thinking about buying my first Mac, the MANAGER OF THE STORE was actually talking down the Macbook. He wasn't saying I'd be better off with an iMac or a MBP or offering any reasons, he was just dogging the Macbook.
Are they that snooty, are they just idiots or are they the worst salespeople in history?

I wouldn't go so far as to say that they are "jerks", but I definitely take serious issue with their service department. They DO NOT call you when your Mac is done and they often just never bother to answer the phone. I have a feeling that "Nick" is nothing more than a Mac Resource employee trying to push the store.
Mac Resource is a fine enough store when there isn't an alternative, but I probably won't be going there once the Apple store opens. Their customer service isn't all that great and if they can't offer something over the Apple store itself, why go? They aren't much more than 5 minutes away from each other anyway.

If only I didn't have a work trip for this week, I'd be at the opening. But, hey, at least we have one now. I hated having to go to Green Hills, TN to go to one.

Bridgestreet wasn't even started when Birmingham got the Apple Store.
I grew up in Huntsville and get back often but currently reside in Birmingham. You would have a very hard argument that Birmingham is not a better market. Much larger and much more affluent suburban areas (Mountain Brook, Hoover, Vestavia) and UAB (which dwarfs UAH by comparison). Huntsville (and Madison) will be a good market, but just can't match Birmingham's size.
However, Bandito Burrito rules.

I grew up in Birmingham and currently reside in Huntsville. While Birmingham is a larger market, the "affluent" there is only old money. If it doesn't involve a bank or a hospital, you will be hard pressed to find a computer, let alone a Mac, used by anyone but the youngest who live there. It is what it is... Birmingham is more of a blue collar place and many people there just don't see the need for a computer to be part of their lives.
My 2 cents...

Er, yeah we aren't ever going to agree on this. But agree to disagree :) Hoover and Vestavia aren't really old money and even old money (Mountain Brook) has kids. Apple is hip, and kids with money have hip. The apple store is consistently packed out here to an annoying degree. The metro area has over 3x the population of Huntsville and it's just a much bigger city (and a much more traveled to city) that can bring in more revenue. The Summit in particular has above national average sales per square foot. Birmingham is the largest and most famous city in the state, and is a logical choice for a retail launch.
In any case, I'm glad Huntsville got one. It should do well there.

I was merely an interview away from actually working at this store's Genius Bar. Sadly, the delay in the store's launch (From early this year to now the last day of May) was long enough for me to get an opportunity with a contractor.
Tho I will still turn out for the opening.

I made the trek from Huntsville to Birmingham for the grand opening of the apple store last year. So I will definitely make the 5 mile trip to the grand opening of the store in Huntsville. Plus it opens on my birthday!!

I've had nothing but good experiences with MacResource in HSV. My parents live in Decatur, AL. I'm in Chattanooga, TN. I'd rather deal with those guys than be anonymous at an apple store. They have always emailed me back.

Great pics and vid of the opening. I was there but about 200+ back of the line. So glad there is an Apple store here now.

I used to work at Mac Resource and they do call people when their repairs are done because I used to do it. My job was to call each repair and tell them their repair was done. I remember how people would come in complaining about how no one called them telling them their repair was done when I knew they were lying because I had called them and probably either left a voice mail or someone else took the message and probably didn't pass it along.
I also went to the Bridge Street opening and it was exciting. I went hack later the next week to test the Geniuses. I had a friend and I go in with our MacBooks and ask them how to do file sharing in Leopard. Neither Genius had a clue on how to do it. Talk about incompetent.
I trust the people who still work at Mac Resource and know each one is competent. They will continue to get my business.
