I'm the Bill who posted above.
After the clean install of the originial software that came with my mac mini 10.5 - everything is back to normal and is stable as. No problems whatsoever now. Maybe give the update a miss unless you are running an 8-core 32 gig of RAM beast? Seems to be a lot of people having drama with the update, steer clear until the smoke has settled and Apple has sorted it out.
Just my 2cents...
10.5.3 has been a nightmare for me. I have so many apps freezing and cannot quit the processes. The stability of my OS X desktop has degraded considerably. Very frustrating!

After mucking about for a bit I've just decided to go back to 10.5 (using the erase and install option) as I had no issues with it at all. Backed everything up with a firewire ex-hard-drive rather than the time-machine gimmick.
My advice is to forget the update until Apple solves some of these drama's next time around, I think they rushed this one out
After 10.5.3. My Macbook pro refuse to shutdown. Spinning wheel. Forever.

Also, my fan speed is alway at maximum (6000). It look like a rocket.
I can't believe that they STILL have not fixed the Auto-Quit printer bug in Leopard! You'd think after 3 revisions they could squeeze that one in...but NOPE! It's still annoying the hell out of me whenever I print and then have to go manually quit the printer to get it out of the Dock.

It GENERALLY will freeze. I have been working with this all day.
6 Gigs Ram on Dual G5. It WILL NOT FORCE QUIT. I must turn off machine. Terrible.
I had to unhook external drives to not freeze.

The discussion forums at apple.com are getting lit up with similar problems.

Installed it on my Core Duo MBP. Only trouble I see is my internal speakers have gone mute. Volume controls don't work. Plug in head phones...fine. AirTunes in iTunes...fine. Restart tone...fine. Sound Preferences display "Digital Out" as the only output when no headphones are plugged in. Zapping PRAM didn't fix it. Any ideas?
May 29 2008 at 10:35 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyFigured it out. It wasn't 10.5.3 after all. A post on Apple's site mentions a switch inside the audio out jack that can sometimes get stuck. A few plug/unplugs of the headphone jack released the switch and sound has been restored to my internal speakers.

Yep, same problem here, the only error I get is that my backp volume can't be mounted. The strage thing is that I've been following the forum over at apple support and lots of users report it's still working for them.
I've tried restarting my AEBS, mounting and unmounting the partition of my hard drive, etc to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm using a CD macbook pro 17"
