Viva Las iMacs!

What happens in Vegas will be visible to your iChat buddies when the $2.9 billion Fontainebleau resort opens in Sin City next fall.

VegasTrippers.com reports that the Fontainebleau has partnered with Apple to install an iMac in every one of the 3,889 rooms and suites. To quote the fancy brochure available on the Fontainebleau website:

"Fontainebleau guests experience a new sensory landscape through an innovative relationship with Apple. The program includes intuitive and simple options for booking and pre-planning stays online and interactive programming throughout the resort. An iMac in every guest room inspires guests to share memories and encourages personal expression."

There's no word on whether a fabulous Vegas version of iPhoto will give you the ability to airbrush out that strange woman or man you're with, or if there is a new Apple-designed peripheral for removing tattoos that mysteriously showed up on your body overnight.

I believe a similar thing was done in a UK hotel chain where every room had an iMac. It goes to show how people are now bringing technology with them every where they go. I guess the next thing will be MacBooks on airplanes hehe...

They will use the same technology that apple uses to refresh machines between users.

It's smart if you think about it. You can set them up for Duel Boot (Windows or Mac OS on startup) People bring their MP3 players, camera's flashdrives, and other devices with them. As well as needing to access data from your work sites when you are at a convention you have the use of your rooms computer.

The big thing I see is making sure they have airport cut off so you are not jumping to the room next to you.

From what I understand from the IT guys, I'm guessing they're gonna put something similar to Drive Vaccine on the systems, so that when the guest checks out they can just reboot and it goes back to default, erasing anything that was put on there by the guest. That way the guests can pretty much hose it up and all it takes is a reboot to fix it.

I believe that Mac OS X server supports a netboot-from fresh image restart aimed at the education market and other potential applications (this?)

If you go to the fountainbleu website and watch the video on the hotel, about 3/4 of the way through when they do the virtual tour of the retail space you can see an iPhone ad on the wall

They either need to lock the system down, including physically disabling FW and USB ports or wipe the system and ghost it with each new guest.

PS: The 'read' link should be: http://www.fontainebleau.com/
