Apple megastore in Las Vegas CityCenter in 2009?
CityCenter is a massive new multi-use building project designed by architectural rock star Daniel Libeskind. It is currently under construction in Las Vegas, and -- according to AppleInsider -- the jewel in this glittering crown will be a supermassive Apple Store, located directly in the front of the complex right along Las Vegas Boulevard.
Quoting "people familiar with the project", AppleInsider claims that the store will boast over 20,000 feet of floor space on two levels. The article is accompanied by architectural renderings, though none of them feature any giant white apples or other clues as to the exact placement of the store.
The CityCenter project has been controversial in Las Vegas; six workers have died on the project since it began, and construction workers walked off the project last Monday after union safety negotiations with the general contractor failed, though they returned the next night. The project is due to be completed in the fall of 2009, at which point the new Apple megastore will join the two existing Apple Store locations on the Strip. (AppleInsider incorrectly states that there are three locations, but the third Apple Store in Nevada is actually in Reno, on the other side of the state.)
Speaking as a resident of Sin City, I'm not sure if CityCenter is going to be a beautiful hypermodern arcology to rival Tokyo's Roppongi Hills, or just another big ugly thing for drunken idiot turistas from the Midwest to throw up on. But if they're really putting a ginormous Apple Store front and center, I'll be out front on opening day with the rest of the rubes.

As another fellow resident of Sin City, I'm of the opinion that City Center will be another place for drunken idiot turistas.
The cost of the stuff in it will be again out of the price range for anyone who actually lives here, and since the condo market has bottomed out in town no one is even buying the units that are for sale, which will leave the places designed to be lived in quite empty.

Honestly, why have 3 apple stores within a few miles of one anther?
There is one at Fashion Show mall, at one end of the strip, which is TINY. There's a new one at Town Square, at the other end of the strip, which is slightly larger. If one goes in at City Center I would suspect that they would close one of the other two.
As a Vegas-area resident, I would rather see one go in Henderson (a close suburb) near where I live. They should put one at The District where the Sharper Image store used to me.

Isn't there one scheduled to open in the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace, too? I just got back from Las Vegas earlier this week and noticed that "Apple" was already listed on the store directory in a space towards the back of the mall next to the Gap.

Nice to see so many Vegas residents here.
Joshua, I think Apple Insider was referring to the soon to open Apple Store in the Forum Shops. By the time the City Center one is done, it would be the fourth.
But regardless, I'm with badweasel. Put one in The District or the Shoppes at Summerlin Centere so us residents don't have to drive downtown every time we need something.

I don't mind the one at Town Square, since it's only a hop and a jump from the university district where I usually hang out. But yeah, it'd be nice to have one in Green Valley.
Not Summerlin, though. Summerlin can go to Hell and die. ;-)

Funny how all the people who can't afford to live in Summerlin seem to hate it so much. I live in Summerlin, and it's great. I'd love to see an Apple store around here. Im sure there will be one in the new mall that's being built here.

I doubt there will be one anytime soon.
There is a long time independent Apple reseller (Springboard Media) on Walnut street, which would lose a lot of business if Apple came into the city. Springboard tends to be a bit on the pricy side, but they are a well run ship.
There's also Bundy Typewriter, but they are not very nice. Also, by Penn there is Penn Computer Connection, which is a nice place.

I just find it a little ridiculous that one or two stores is the reason that Apple won't put a store in Philadelphia when there are how many in NYC? Vegas? The LOUVRE? You must be kidding me...

I work in the Forum Shops. Where the Apple Store was going now says "another exciting store coming soon" about a month ago it said "Apple Store opening soon" and had the apple logo. I assume they broke their lease agreement to go into City Center.

Being in Vegas (westside summerlin subarn gangsters...lol), Id welcome a new Apple store thats not smaller then a GAP store. Unfortunately its going to be in the CityCenter project, I would love to see one up in the Summerlin Centre project.

This project can't hurt. The standard of architecture in Las Vegas is so godforsaken that, simply put, who cares?
I grew up and lived in LV for more than 20 years. I was here when UNLV installed the Claes Oldenburg flashlight sculpture. I had to laugh. It's a light that illuminates nothing. It points directly into the ground. Oldenburg was funny that way. In the twenty-seven years since then, nothing has occurred to make Oldenburg's comment any less apropos, except, just possibly, Liebeskind's development.

an apple store at the district in henderson or in boca park in summerlin would be great, especially as the former would be just around the corner from work and the latter only 5 minutes away. i think this apple store in city center has to be wishful thinking fueled by the fontainbleu's decision to put imacs in each of its 3500+ rooms.

You list two locations for an Apple Store that don't make any sense apart from being close to your job, and then you accuse those of thinking that the massive CityCenter project might have an Apple Store of "wishful thinking"? Pot, kettle much?
