Spore Creature Creator now available
The Spore Creature Creator is a preview and demo for the full Spore game, which is scheduled for release on September 7. As you might expect from the name the Creature Creator allows you to build and customize creatures which you'll later be able to use in gameplay once the full game is released. I've been playing with the trial this morning and it does look very promising.
The Spore Creature Creator is Leopard and Intel Mac only. It requires at least an ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100. It will apparently not run on computers with the GMA 950 integrated graphics chipset on OS X (though, it will on Windows). The trial version can be downloaded directly from the Spore trial site.
Thanks, Shiraz!

It's probably a rendering issue associated with whatever type of integrated video is used. I have the issue with my Mac mini. It'll be great if someone finds a solution, but I'm not expecting much.

Here's how to get the full version of the Spore Creature Creator to work under Mac OSX:
1 - Install the FREE version of the SCC.
2 - Get an installation (from a friend) of the full SCC.
3 - On the Mac, right click on the 'Spore Creature Creator Trail Edition' and select 'Show package content'
4 - Copy the 'SPORE' directory from the PC to Resources\transgaming\c_drive\Program Files\EA Games\ and rename it to 'Spore'
5 - Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences/SPORE Creature Creator Preferences/ and edit the system.reg file
6 - Add the following lines (anywhere in the file should do):
[Software\\Electronic Arts\\Electronic Arts\\Spore(TM) Creature Creator\\ergc] 1213787222
@="SERIALGOESHERE"
And replace SERIALGOESHERE with the activation key from the CD/EA Store WITHOUT the '-' signs.
Now you should be able to run the full version of Spore Creature Creator on the Mac.

nicework hiryu,
that worked great!

I tried that, but now the game freezes at the splash screen. Did I do something wrong?

The system.reg lines might have been mangled by the post. It's supposed to be 2 lines, the second line starts with the @.
Try deleting the installation (AppZap work great) and reinstalling. You might need to run the Trial version one time for the ~/Library/Preferences/SPORE Creature Creator Preferences/ to be created.

I have the full Mac version on CD, but it won't run on the Mac mini. I see there is a way to make the trial version work on the mac mini, but is there a way to make the cd version work on a mac mini?
