Photographers and the iPhone
AppleMatters has published a great list of their top ten ways photographers can benefit from the iPhone. From sharing your portfolio on-the-go to note taking, it's a good list. My favorite is the example of a wedding photographer who keeps a sort of "check list" of shots to get (grouped shots, individual shots, etc.) as a reference on his phone. We've seen people use the iPhone's camera to create to-do lists, share instructional videos and more. On a recent car shopping expedition, I made a gallery of all the vehicles I test drove for reference and comparison at home.
What's your favorite uncommon use of the iPhone?

It has been mentioned here - taking photos of products in shops - I take shots of the prices / barcodes of items that don't have a sticker on them so that when we get to the checkout the person there doesn't have to ring for an assistant. They can't usually use the barcode but they can see the item number and type that in.
It HAS saved time and reduces frustration.
Wow -- a photographer can "keep a sort of 'check list' of shots to get (grouped shots, individual shots, etc.) as a reference on his phone." Good luck doing THAT with a notebook, right?

I created an Album in iPhoto, then I'm able to have these with me on my iPhone, when I'm mobile. Also, great for at home. I also sync the "Menu" Album to my AppleTV, then they are accessible on my projection TV. Great for when I want to order, during a sporting event. Everyone can easily see the menu at the same time, and I can finally throw out all those lose menus around the house. I wish iPhoto, would allow PDFs, then I could have the phone number as a link, and the iphone would be able to dial it.

I've also tried scanning membership/discount cards, and keeping them in the photo library, rather than putting them in my wallet.
I've taken a photograph of the bus stop outside my flat, with the iPhone camera... when I go out on a wild drunken night I always make sure to set the wallpaper on my iPhone to that very shot- so I can find my way home... thanks to Lothian busses and their complex numbering system for that.
July 01 2008 at 11:08 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy wife and I are buying a home in a different state. I made a trip down there by myself to look at homes and took pictures of them, and upload them to the Web Gallery where my wife could then check them out. This was one of the first trips I made without bringing my laptop!
(It'd be great though if I could make videos with the iPhone and upload those to a Web Gallery!)
When My wife and I visited London, Munich and Paris last month, I took a picture of the rail system map and a picture of the stop nearest our hotel. I also take pictures of any transfer stations and landmarks that will help us get back to our hotel. That way we can wander the city freely and not worry about getting to lost. I also took pictures of restaurants we went to.
