Pwnage 2.0 released
The iPhone Dev Team has just released PwnageTool 2.0, thus bringing jailbreak and non-App Store third-party application support to iPhones/iPod Touches running firmware 2.0. First-generation iPhones can also be unlocked. At this time, the iPhone 3G cannot be unlocked or used with BootNeuter.Erica will post more details later tonight or tomorrow, and the Dev Team promises a more detailed announcement soon.
As always, be cautious if you decide to install PwnageTool 2.0 and make proper backups of all of your data before proceeding, understand that installing software like PwnageTool is unsupported by Apple, blah blah blah.
Enjoy!
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Anyone know why despite downloading the v3.9 bootloaders I need for my 2G iPhone, the Pwnage Tool is still telling me these are the wrong files? The file is called "BL-39.bin" and I've tried downloading it from several sources but don't get any luck when i try to run it. A little stuck...any help is appreciated.

any help??? thanks
THE REASON WHY IT TELLS YOU THAT "DFU" MODE FAILED IS BECAUSE YOUR IPHONE HAS TO BE TURNED OFF BEFORE YOU RUN PWNAGE. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THINKING I HAD TO BE IN DFU MODE BEFORE I RAN PWNAGE.
DO THIS....
1) TURN OFF YOUR IPHONE
2) RUN PAWNAGE 2.1
3) CREATE YOUR CUSTOM FIRMWARE
4) CLICK BUILD IT
5) ENTER PASSWORD
6) WAIT FOR CUSTOM FIREWARE TO COMPLETE
7) THEN IT WILL ASK YOU IF YOU HAVE PWNED YOUR IPHONE BEFORE... SELECT NO (BE SURE YOUR IPHONE IS OFF BEFORE CLICKING NO)
8) THEN IT WILL GIVE YOU STEP BY STEP DIRECTIONS TO GET YOUR IPHONE IN DFU MODE.. ONCE IN DFU MODE.. PWNAGE WILL FINISH AND YOU WILL GET THE SUCCESSFUL MESSAGE :)
ONE MORE THING.. BEFORE YOU ENTER YOUR PASSWORD TO COMPLETE YOUR CUSTOM FIRMWARE.. YOU WILL SEE A WINDOW WITH FOLDERS IN IT.. APPLICATIONS, SYSTEM, USER, TEMP, LIBRARY, ETC..
FROM HERE, YOU CAN DELETE APPS THAT YOU DONT WANT TO INSTALL ON YOUR IPHONE, LIKE.. I DONT LIKE THE CONTACTS APPS CUS ITS IN THE PHONE APP AND I DONT USE ITUNES ON MY IPHONE SO I TOOK THAT OFF TO.. YOU CAN ALSO DELETE OR CHANGE RINGTONES, SMS AND EMAIL TONES, UNLOCK AND LOCK TONES, ETC.
YOU CAN ALSO DRAG YOUR APPS FROM ITUNES LIKE THE MYSPACE APP AND PUT IT IN THE APPLICATIONS FOLDER AND YOUR CUSTOM FIRMWARE WILL HAVE IT PREINSTALLED.. PRETTY COOL HUH.. NOW IF WE CAN GET THIRD PARTY APPS FROM DEVELOPERS.. LIKE CUSTOMIZE AND INSTALLER.. WE DONT NEED TO GO THRU ITUNES TO GET THERE APPS. :)
WHEN IS THE WINDOWS VERSION COMING OUT!??
July 22 2008 at 5:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replythis is a really stupid question, but what does unlocking the iphone mean?, is it the same as unlocking the simcard, because i went through the whole pwnge tool 2.0 on my iphone with the 2.0 firmware and it doesn't work with other simcards
July 20 2008 at 9:52 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf you ran pwnage in Simple Mode you have to click "No" when asked if you are a legit AT&T customer. When you click "No" it unlocks the baseband on the phone allowing other GSM sim cards to be used. If you click "Yes" it bypasses this step and you can only use AT&T sim cards.
July 21 2008 at 4:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHey, I went through the whole process and my 1G iphone only has the "cyndia" icon on the home screen but that's it, and when i put switch in another sim card (I'm an at&t customer :( it goes to the "connect to itunes screen" and can only do emergency calls), do I have to download a new unlock sim app or something??? thanks

Keeps on failing while detaching the root filesystem from '/Volumes/BigBear... Any ideas?
July 20 2008 at 10:30 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHi folks. I could really do with some guidance. It's probably a really dumb question, but....
I have a 2G iphone, with 1.1.4, jailbroken and unlocked with ZiPhone, with quite a few apps installed with Installer App.
Thank you to Nano for confirming that he Pwnage'd successfully from a similar situation.
But what happens to all of the ALREADY INSTALLED apps?
Do they (a) all work fine, (b) stay on the device, but just don't work, (c) get wiped by the firmware upgrade?
... or something else entirely.
Many thanks for your help.
