Your iPhone dislikes "Flickr"
Some have said that the iPhone 2.0 software is buggy. We say, "Bugs? What bugs?"Today, reader Alfred has identified one that you can try for yourself. Open up Notes and attempt to type "Flickr." You'll find that you can't. The 2.0 software replaces "Flickr" with "flicke" or "flickt".
Here's the weird part: you can't even select the "r" button. Sliding a finger from "e" to "t" skips "r" entirely.
Here's the obvious, inelegant workaround: delete the "e" or "t" and type again. For more odd (and useful) iPhone tips, check out our iPhone 101 series.
Thanks, Alfred!

I've had this problem with the word 'cutest' since before the 2.0 firmware. I even filed a bug about it. You can't type the 't', but it'll select ANY OTHER LETTER.
Generally, I end up spelling 'cutesy' instead. :/

All of you for whom it works, at least with english keyboard setups, its probably already learnt it in your use?

This is a GOOD thing. It prevents you from typing anything ending with ER wrong. Since E and R are right next to each other, the tendency is to mess up. This is one reason the iPhone is SO great for typing fast (when you learn to trust the auto-correction) compared to any other chicklet keyboard phone I have used. If you really want to type Flickr, Hackr or anything else like that. just backspace and it lets you. Genius in my opinion. I more often want the correct -ER over -KR for example.

Not true. I typed Flickr just fine on my iPhone 2.0. Sounds like a Windows user.

Wow, it really must be slow. I would not consider this a "bug". After a few times of using certain words, the phone will remember them and you won't have to backspace. This applies to many words, not just "Flickr"
C'mon TUAW. Next.

Wrong, it's a bug. I want to be able to type what I want to type, not have the iPhone completely disable the key I'm trying to press. Stop slamming TUAW--they're 100% right in this case.

I was going to say "you're all a bunch of buffoons"… and then my first attempt at typing "Flickr" resulted in "Flicke".
There's definitely some sort of wonky hit detection going on. I typed "Flickr" enough under 1.0 to know it worked. Under 2.0, the hit detection is indeed wonky. Even typing very slowly, and hitting the "R" key dead center, "E" popped up. (Yes I held down to make *sure* I was hitting dead center. There was the "E" NEXT to my finger, popping up its accents.)
This isn't the only case of this though - I've been seeing an issue where, while playing music, unlocking the screen drops you back to the Home screen as if you hit the Home button. Tested this one out a mess of times.

This behavior is not new to version 2.0. I noticed this in 1.1.1+ tho I can remember how I fixed or worked around it.

I've got it to learn Flickr. I could never remember my name (Niki)... always made my Niko or Nike. So, I added my name to my address book and now it pulls it up everytime!

Try type the word 'pc' on the iPhone and it suggests 'of' however type imac and it suggests iMac ... what a pain!
