MS and Vegas Apple Stores: Your reports
Apple opened two new Apple Stores last weekend -- one in Ridgeland, Mississippi (that state's first store) and another in sunny Las Vegas (Nevada's fourth and the third in Vegas). As usual, we asked any TUAW operatives who may have attended to share their reports and/or pictures. Reader Dave took some nice shots in Mississippi. So, did you go, and more importantly, what did you get? Let us know in the comments. Here's hoping you scored a T-shirt!
In related news, there's an interesting map at ifoAppleStore that overlays Apple Store locations with population density in the US. Of course it makes sense to put stores where the most people are, and that's just what Apple has done.

I'm from Atlanta, where we have lots of Apple stores, and they aren't quite as special. I just happened to be in Jackson for the day, so I checked out the store opening. You could see on people's faces in Mississippi that they were shocked that such a store had such a cultish following. It seemed EVERYONE had an iPhone, too. Maybe that's mostly their only exposure to Apple products, since there is no Apple store in the state. Good times ahead for Apple in Mississippi.

Ok, great news. But why ruin it at the end by ensuring we're not all idiots.

As a Vegas resident, lemme' be the first to say how idiotic the new store location is. It is 2 BLOCKS from another Apple store. On the 'Strip' no less.
They must be hoping all the tourists are in the market for iPhones. Because no locals go shopping on the Strip. It's a traffic nightmare.

The map of the Las Vegas store (used in the post) is wrong. Google maps gets it right. I'm not sure how that marker ends up Downtown, rather than on the Strip. If you go to the marker in your map, you'll find the parking garage for City Hall.

I went to the one in Mississippi and snagged this photo before being forced out by the crowds.

Irony would be more like you pulled out an unlocked iphone to take that "ironic" picture and the camera produced garbled images. Then being refused service because of an unlocked iPhone.

It may be Jackson's first official Apple Store, but it's by no means Mississippi's first exposure to Apple products. Jackson used to have a great Apple seller called User Friendly. Not sure if they're still there, though. Jackson has, I think, at least three colleges, and a larger Mac-user population. The Apple Store will very much be utilized there. Congrats, Jackson!

I seem to recall a User Friendly or two around the Jackson area.
Mississippi has three major universities, and then several community colleges.
