Flickr Find: iPhone cubism

Of course, it's a bug, not a feature. Since several people are reporting this as a problem after 2.0 was released, we're guessing it's a software issue, perhaps a problem with syncing the little light sensor chip in the iPhone's camera. If you have some great pictures of this stuff, throw them into the pool on Flickr, and hopefully for the less artistic (and less bug-patient) among us, Apple will get this fixed soon.
Thanks, Jason!

Here is a MobileMe gallery of these messed up photographs including one of the 5th Avenue Apple Store.

All taken on the glorious 3G!

Ha! I though it was only a fluke on my iPhone! It's only happened once to me...

That one's really nifty. 14th St. A/C/E subway station in NYC, if I'm not mistaken.

Yup it is, I'd know it anywhere. My home station for 8 years before I had to move uptown. (Tear)

I had this happen to me, and I thought I was the only one. Maybe Apple will fix it sooner if it gets some attention on Flickr and TUAW.

I took one of the 1st pix of a bride and groom coming down the aisle after the ceremony and the iPhone kind of put a line between them... weird, hope it wasn't an omen... !

This has happened to me once. It looked a lot worse than that.

Unfortunately, once Apple fixes this, someone is going to have to write some software that re-creates it. It's too cool to lose.

Come on, seriously?
That's a broke camera. Only Apple people would praise a glitchy, broke device.
Sure, it looks cool, but why does everyone wish their iphone was broken like this?

Same reason people love Lomography?

Actually, it usually only happens (to me) the first time I take a picture of something. It's luckily never happened when I want to whip out my phone to take a picture quickly, but this has happened to me a few times randomly. It's not that big of a deal, and it's not a "broke camera". As was mentioned, it's since 2.0 came - a software issue. Apple probably wouldn't take it back because of this unless it was an interesting representative.
Ryan Trevisol said 7:25AM on 9-03-2008
From a tech point of view, I understand that it's a software issue, but look at it from an average consumer's perspective: If only certain phones do it (mine has never and I've snapped dozens of pics), and you have a 3g iPhone, there's no transparent software issue here; 2.0 is the ONLY firmware available for your phone. If my 3G iPhone does this and a new one probably won't, then guess what? My phone is broke.

I have had this happen to me several times since 2.0 came out. I would say about every 40th pic it does it.

Happened on my 1st gen after 2.0, but has never happened on the 3G... Thought it was oddly awesome.
