Is Fake Steve returning, real Steve ill?
First the good news. Dan Lyons, the man behind Fake Steve Jobs, has suggested that his fictional alter-ego may be ready for a return. Earlier in the summer, Dan left his job at Forbes for Newsweek, and stopped writing as Fake Steve in the process. However, this week he starts that Newsweek job, and told Mac Soda that Fake Steve is to be a part of that. Which is great, as Fake Steve is very insightful and funny.
Now the bad news. In the same interview, Dan says that Steve Jobs is ill. Speculation over Steve's health has been a topic of discussion this summer, while Apple has been quiet and respectful of Steve's privacy.
We expect to see Steve during next week's press event. We hope he's doing well.

LOL elsewheres "arne said... If you compare his physical appearance to the average american, he does look very skinny. If you compare it to the physical appearance of europeans and the rest of the world population, he looks perfectly fine."

My best friend's sister's brother's boyfriend knows this kid who's dating this girl who's friend saw Steve Jobs pass out at 31 Flavors last night.
I guess it's pretty serious.

The success of the Fake Steve Jobs was based almost entirely on the enjoyment people had guessing who was actually writing the blog. Without that element it will tank.
It might have been worth noting that many commentators, including your source for this post, are throwing cold water on Lyons' comments about Jobs' health. Given Jobs contacted the NYT to clarify his health situation, there would be massive legal ramifications for Apple (as a publicly held company) if he deliberately lied as Lyons would have us believe.

Wrong. I enjoyed it because it was funny. I didn't give a shit about who the author was.

People enjoyed reading Fake Steve because he said things they wished Real Steve had the balls to say in public.

we all know steve has a very passionate and direct relationship with his products. then it will come to no surprise that steve's health is contigent on the health of his products. note: when mobileme was "ready" to launch and iphone 2.0 was unveiled, steve looked sicker than ever. the same way we were reassured that steve was just suffering from a small flu, mobile me and 2.0 were apparently also only slightly ill. we all came to realize that was not the case, and that it would take longer to fix all the new problems that were surfacing. while slowly things are being worked out, we are all downloading updates feverishly only to see the same problems still getting the best of our stuff. steve is simply reacting to a lot of bad programming. i'm sure he hasn't been sleeping too well. it's up to the engineers at apple to get everybody healthy again. step up to the plate guys, it's not just our business on the line here....
love,
phil

Its possible that Steve Jobs may be stepping down - I hope I'm wrong but maybe thats why the journalist was told that September 9 is going to be a big deal http://cultofmac.com/apples-sept-9th-event-is-a-big-deal/2675 . Again - I hope I'm wrong but its possible if Steve Jobs is really that ill.
