Sharpshooter lets you rename newly taken screenshots
Do you like using Mac OS X's built-in screenshot key commands? If you do, chances are that you don't like the files that it outputs on your desktop: "Picture 1.png"? What was I thinking when I took this screenshot? What is the screenshot of? If these questions bother you, then you might like Sharpshooter. Sharpshooter is an application that chimes in when you take a screenshot using command + shift +3 and gives you options for setting the file name, save location, and the format. You can even move the screenshot directly to the trash.
Overall, Sharpshooter looks like an awesome addition to any Mac OS X system in which users are constantly dealing with screenshots using the built-in utility. Sharpshooter is available from the developer's website for an introductory price (until October 2008) for $12 US. Regular price is $15. A free 30-day trial is also available.

Sheesh. What a bunch of whiners...
All I know is that, in the span of a work week, when I'm desperate to get images cobbled together from any number of sources, ESPECIALLY for presentations, it's good to know that, as long as I can see it on screen, I can get it with the built-in screen capture utility.
But, after a few helter-skelter presentation assemblies, I am also looking as a folder with 32 "Picture X.png" files in it, because you're just snapping everything and working out the details in Photoshop or whatever. Yet some of the screengrabs stl hold value after the fact. I also use the screen captures for online receipt storage (especially if the site doesn't offer a great "print this receipt" function). If you had some way to name the snapshots before saving, it would be a real time-saver. I honestly forget that Grab still exists (dig that FUNKY NeXT-era moving eyeball icon! The good thing is it shows you how stable it is if they haven't touched it in this long, the bad is that they haven't touched it for THIS LONG...)
LuminousNerd, you sound like someone's forcing you to pay for a utility you'll never use. They're not.
And, finally, last I checked, the only other utility that intercepted screenshots with all of the standard Mac OS X key commands was the $30 very-long-in-the-tooth SnapzPro from Ambrosia (screen capture variant only). Wow, Jaguar pin-stripes? Really? So, you know, it's half THAT anyway.
Noooo!!! This ruins a good thing! For one, it's a lot less steps to use exposé to hide your desktop. Two, THE VERY REASON that I absolutely LOVE the built-in screenshot utility is because it's INVISIBLE, and I don't think I'm the only one.
This is insane! I don't want a popup every time I take a screenshot, and for god's sake I don't want to PAY for it!
I'm surprised they're charging for this. Might have been somewhat useful in Tiger but now with QuickLook you can easily whip through your screenshots and rename them easily.
If you need to rename or move or whatever directly after the shot, why not setup a folder action? Automator makes this pretty easy... you could probably set this up in about 10 minutes tops.
And for those who forget:
* Cmd-Shift-3: Whole screen
* Cmd-Shift-4: gives you crosshairs to select
* Cmd-Shift-4, then Control: puts it in the clipboard (for example, further manipulation in your fav editor)
Cmd-Shift-4, then Spacebar: lets you select windows, the menubar, palettes, etc.
Jing works great as does Grab. Not sure why you need this.

and it's great, not only takes screenshots, it also has a build-in image editor to add arrows, text, lines, draws... it allow resize, crop...
Also drag&drop, history....
Everything I need.
Frankly, I'm amazed that there are people out there that aren't using Skitch.

I don't need Yet Another Program clogging up my workstream. This is a nice extension to the built-in screenshot function (read: not Grab, but the universal Cmd+Shift+3 shortcut) but I don't believe it's worth the $12.
