TUAW report card: Let's Rock event

Now that today's press event is over, we can review our earlier predictions and see how well we did.

Just half an hour before it started, I guessed that Steve would reveal "...a revamped nano line, with greater storage, a new design and UI." The design and UI are certainly new, and the storage capacities have changed to 8GB and 16GB.

I also predicted a price drop on the iPod touch (got that one), iTunes 8 (one more) and HD content (trifecta!). Not bad.

What I missed: All of the nifty new features on the touch, new accessories and Steve's brown shirt.

Last week, Erica predicted "...a revamped nano with a longer silhouette," and was right on target. She also predicted a re-tooling of the Nike+ kit, and was half right on that one. It's built into the iPod touch now, but the functionality is the same.

Many people thought we'd see a subscription-based "iTunes Unlimited" today, but it didn't happen. Finally, Erica predicted iPhone 2.1 and iTunes 8.0. All in all, we did pretty well.

Thanks for playing along and let us know if you buy any of Apple's shiny new toys!

Not to hop on the bandwagon of bashing the self-congratulatory kudos... but I'm going to jump on the bandwagon of self-congratulatory kudos. None of the predictions you take credit for were particularly unique given the amount of rumours flying around. And, for the sake of fairness, you also glossed over some of the predictions, specifically from your Talkcast/podcast on Sunday that were way off: anyone want to discuss the touch-based nano? Anyone?

Didn't listen to their podcast, but as you say, it feels very nostradamus-like. Focusing on the things that did come true and making irrelevant the things that didn't.

Lotta love in this room. Not sure if some folks need cookies or tickets to Mars.

Either way, please take your seething hatred somewhere it'll do some good. I hear somethingawful.com is nice this time of year.

As John Gruber said via Twitter today, "If Jobs's shirt looks brown, your camera's white-balance is wrong."

I would have to agree.

I just hope Erica steps forward and admits that Apple DID have to lower the iPod Touch prices to compete with the iPhone's lower price. The 16GB an 32GB both dropped $100 with this new model. She blew off the idea of a Touch price drop after the 3G was announced.

She's just SO in-tune. Lets just call her Miss Erica and give her her own 1-900 Psychic line.

Was the shirt actually brown this time, or was it Engadget's useless camera distorting the colors again?

Always think it ironic that self-proclaimed gadget experts can't even work a camera, or choose one that isn't dodgy.

Dave, Jobs doesn't wear brown. You are obviously an Apple/Mac poser and should be fired immediately for not knowing these things. ;-)

The "brown" is a problem with the white balance on the Engadget camera. It happened also at the March 5th iPhone SDK event.

TUAW continues to be a tremendous failure. Dave Caolo and Erica Sadun fill up this blog with garbage and drivel. I like how they try to give the impression of being somehow on the cutting edge with these "prediction."

These blog posts continue to be horrendous.

Now and then I click the links at the bottom of Engadget, to see if TUAW has gotten its act together. You still have not. Christ.

Jobs wore a black turtleneck by the way - you might be referring to the awful color cast in the engadget photos: http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/09/apple-lets-rock-089.jpg

No, Dave Caolo. You come up with these crappy posts just to make yourself feel good that stretch the limits of boredom beyond belief.

16GB iPod nano third-generation? At least get your facts right.

I don't like reading your posts

Forgive my presumption, "E", but if you don't like reading Dave's posts then why are you reading TUAW? You could skip over his posts, you know. Nobody's holding a gun to your head, forcing you to read what you don't want to.

"E" has commented a grand total of twice, both times to gripe about the content. I'm left to wonder at the mental capacity of someone who keeps reading a site whose content he finds so disagreeable.

That I've only made two comments is probably good reason to assume I enjoy partial content on TUAW.

Just not shit like this.
