Speed Racer DVD Digital Copy not iTunes-friendly

Sam, an avid TUAW reader, emailed us about a recent DVD purchase he made. You may ask, "what's so special about that?" Well, he bought a copy of Speed Racer that was supposed to contain an iTunes Digital Copy.
As you can see in the pictures he emailed us, the outside of the DVD box says it is PC/Mac compatible and works with iTunes. When he got home and opened it up, however, inside the box it says that it is "Not compatible with Apple Macintosh or iPod devices." He even tried it to see if it would work, but alas it didn't. Be sure to take a look at the pictures in the second half of the post, and you can get an eyeful of this strange decision that Warner Bros. made.
Do you think Sam should be able to get a refund for this mistake? We certainly do! Has this happened to you? Be sure to sound off in the comments!
Thanks for the tip and pictures, Sam!

As you can see in this picture, WB says "NOT compatible with Apple Macintosh and iPod devices."

On the outside of the box, WB lists the compatibility options for the Digital Copy. Note that it says, "Compatible with iTunes and Windows Media devices" and lists Mac requirements for compatibility.

I just encountered the same problem with my copy of SPEED RACER. I am still waiting on my email. Its been about 4 days now which is crazy. I thought it might take a day or two to process between the 2 companies, but 4 days is a little crazy. I submitted a question on it to them at:

I just encountered the same problem with my Blu-ray copy of SPEED RACER. (Which obviously I would not be able to rip with Handbrake.)
However, I have both a Mac and a PC at home, though I'm primarily a Mac guy. While Patrick's solution of contacting WB is the best for anyone who does not have a PC, I was able to get my copy on my Mac by doing this:
(1) Insert the Digital Copy disc into my PC
(2) Choose the iTunes option
(3) Enter the authorization code provided with the disc
You'll then see a screen that provides you with a download code and instructions to redeem your download using iTunes.
(4) Copy down the download code provided
(5) Switch to your Mac
(6) Open up iTunes on the Mac and go to the iTunes store
(7) Click "Redeem" under "Quick Links" at the upper right of the store homepage
(8) Enter the download code
(9) Enjoy SPEED RACER digital copy on your Mac
Steven,
I am still waiting on my email. Its been about 4 days now which is crazy. I thought it might take a day or two to process between the 2 companies, but 4 days is a little crazy. I submitted a question on it to them at:

Lets see what they say...
I just received my email from iTunes. Its says "WBDD sent you an iTunes Gift". There was a link in the email that I clicked to send me to iTunes to start the download of the movie.
I suggest everyone that bought the movie that wants it in iTunes to go to the following URL:

It took 4 days for me to receive my email from submitting the form.
I just got the blu-ray of speed racer with the digital copy advertised. It's definitely not compatible--insert the disc and there's an .exe file required to launch the digital copy activation program. Since I have no blu-ray drive in MY mac :) no handbrake for me. False advertising? Definitely. I wonder who we go to to get our money back.

I filled out 2 (or 3) online feedback/customer service forms Tuesday afternoon. Yesterday I received an email with an iTunes Store gift of it. Bummed that the Blu bonus didn't work out of the box, but pleased WB rectified so quickly. I believe the Digital Copy is a great idea- can't cart my PS3 with me everywhere like my Powerbook or iPhone.
Now, if only they'd have made the disc a BD-50 so we could have had a lossless 7:1 track to match the quality of the incredible video!
"outside" sticker, sorry, darned autocorrect typing.

I figured this out as I was going to send support a nasty email and happened to come across this.

Mine came from Walmart. Perhaps this is something that is only found in Walmart...
Ah, what do we think the words are for on that label attached to the front of the dvd? that's right, they're for reading! The reason I didn't get scammed by that Speed Racer download, is because I read the words! Why is it someone else's fault if YOU don't read the instructions? Hey! This Drano tastes funny! Please take responsibility for your own actions, and stop blaming other people because you didn't take the time to read the instructions.
Perhaps we should take our own advice... he said it also didn't work in the WINDOWS version of iTunes despite saying it WOULD.

This happened to me with A Night Before Christmas. It wouldn't copy into iTunes. I called Disney support and apparently the redemption codes that iTunes had weren't the same codes that were printed out. They said they were going to try to fix the problem ASAP. A few days later, they called me and told me it should work now. It did.
Call to Fox and bitch about it, it'll help.
errr, nightmare before christmas. long day.
