Not quite 'The Brick,' but fun anyway
It's many bricks, technically: Lego Bricks. Students at the San Francisco Art Institute used 2,588 bricks to build an enormous Mac Pro case.
The design wasn't without its problems -- partway through the movie, three "Lego engineering catastrophes" forced the addition of a support beam under the middle of the case, presumably to support the weight of the hardware inside.
The exterior design isn't the only thing impressive about it: On the inside, it's a Mac Mini that's FireWire-linked to a PC Hackintosh. Nice.
The case was submitted for the 2008 MacMod Challenge.

Seriously, where do people find the time?
Very cool, though.

my guess is with it powered on after a few minutes it would get really hot and melt the Legos. Good idea...lots of time on a really fun project!

Because you aren't the only person on the internet?

For the foreseeable future, I will consult you personally before posting anything else, to make sure you haven't read it.

huh?

thanks! wow you are really accommodating.

I like the blogger personally shutting up stupid commenters.
robogobo said 6:04PM on 10-01-2008
me too. I like that more than when commenters point out that news is old and has already been posted on a dozen other popular blogs including Giz and Engadget 12 days ago. I really hate that.

This guy is hardcore... I'm not sure if I would ever spend $375 for a Lego Mac case... but I'll be damned if it's not unique.

Is that a flash video? I can't see it on my iPhone. Not too apple friendly. It should either be YouTube or QuickTime.

Also, confirming my comment hard locked my iPhone.

first of all, on my iPhone it doesn't allow me to "view the full tuaw experience", it just keeps reloading the iPhone version. And second, you guys are an apple catered site, so why aren't the videos in QuickTime format more often? Aside from that your site is great.

So off topic, but that song that was playing during the video was probably the most horrible and annoying song I've heard in my entire life. If I ever direct a horrible horror movie with horrible horror elements and horrible acting, I will use that song to truly truly scare people beyond the capability of gore, nudity and perversions.

Mac can't keep a lid on its success, I wonder if Steve Jobs watched this, I wonder if he had time?? I did, and I liked it, I'm not Steve Jobs.

The song is by Plastic Bertrand a Belgian singer who had a huge hit in 1977 with this french song "Ça plane pour moi".
It's an easy going song but with punk influences, but what makes it actually funny is the text but to understand that you need to understand french of course.
Here is a translation:
"Ca Plane Pour Moi"
Wham!
Bam!
Someone poured whiskey on my cat, Splash
And lit him
He went "boof"
While he was on my bed
I tried to put him out with a broom
My goitre problem got in the way (I sleep naked?)
Very quickly
Ouch
Ouch
Ouch
Ouch
In four colours
Ey up!
One morning
There's loot at my place
It's my shit wrapped in plastic
Horse's in fishnets
Spare a drop in one's mouth
It's a very grand beer dance
I like my beer in a big glass
And spew
Ooo
Ooo
Ooo
Ooo
Come on you Indians in your igloos
That's life for me
Repeat twice...
Me
Repeat four times...
That's life for me
Repeat twice...
Ey up!
The mother
Is larger than a panel
What a vibration
And a voyage through passion
Be my dirty passenger
And ride in my lime Combi
You are King of the divan
Oh
Oh
Oh
Oh
I'm King of the divan
That's life for me
Repeat twice...
Ey up!
Occupy me
Touch my trinkets
Touch my little house plant
It's not today that I wish to talk of tambourines
Or the head of a mannequin
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
That's life for me
Repeat thrice...
Ey up!
My Nana's the best
She's bizzarre
Marry me
And carry my case
Lever me onto the bar
My life force will come for a grand cocktail
Oh yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Dance on the plate
That's life for me
My life for me
By purist rules, its not allowed to even mention Plastic Bertrand as punk music. Yet this record was probably a lot better than a lot of so called punk records.
In fact he is one of the few French-speaking artists to appear in the Billboard chart.

Actually the translation s*cks big time but who cares. Ca plane pour moi also means to be "High" btw.
