iLife and iWork '09 announcements on 10/14?
A TUAW tipster pointed us to a unsubstantiated, but intriguing post on Mac Soda noting that iLife and iWork '09 could be announced at the October 14th notebook event. The current versions of iLife and iWork were announced on August 7, 2007 at the same event where the aluminum iMacs debuted, and previous iLife/iWork introductions have also been touted as "one more thing" at hardware-oriented product announcements.
The post doesn't provide any details of enhancements for the applications. In terms of speculating about what could change, iMovie could use some major enhancements to usability after last year's complete rewrite, and iWeb could benefit from better capabilities for publishing to non-MobileMe servers and iPhone-specific templates. The Numbers spreadsheet package could use a lot of new functionality, including macros, while Pages needs new templates.
TUAW readers -- what would you like to see in an iLife or iWork update? Leave a comment.
Thanks to Johannes for the link

I think I'm gonna try and pick up one of the new Macbooks or Macbook Pros this November/December, so I wouldn't mind seeing an iLife upgrade.
I don't use iWork too much, but I the few times I have have made it worth the purchase. It's designs are much better than Word's

I have already got MS Office 2008, so I am happy with it !!

If at all possible, more compatibility with MS Office files, but apart from that, iWork '08 is amazing as it is.

The only reason I use Office is for equations. If iWork supported those, I'd ditch Office entirely.

I'd like to see .docx compatibility in Pages under a "save as" or default setting. The export feature is cumbersome.

As I do not have a Mac (yet), I was wondering if you could open iWork files on iPhone?

I'd like to see the ability of Numbers and Pages to be able to export directly to HTML format.

Would love to see iMovie and iWeb updates. iPhone - iWeb templates would be GREAT and EXPECTED! iMovie needs a lot of help and Im sure will get that too.

the biggest thing for me is completely reworking iMovie. i refuse to use the newest version and still use iMovie HD. it would definitely be great to see easier usability with connecting to non-mobile me based servers as well as some new iDVD themes, those are always fun, ha.

I agree wholeheartedly. iMovie is a complete mess. They need to incorporate it's features into a iMovie HD format. The newer rendition isn't intuitive at all.

It's not a mess - and it is intuitive - but it's not practical for anyone who wants to do more than throw a few clips and images together to make a 30 second movie.
I'd agree that it needs help, but only with more features and the ability for advanced users to have more control in the app.

Then you are missing the fun. I have used iMovie 06 and iMovie 08 and I can honestly say that the work process of iMovie '08 kicks iMovie 06's butt! It does need a few more transitions and effects, but not as much as some people say. You can do alot more in iMovie '08 than you think you can and it's very fast.
At any rate.. I think they need to add more transitions, fix the audio track thing which is usable now, but could be more intuitive. Maybe re-open the third party theme and transition thing. More effects for creating slide shows such as that like keynote has. The ability to add/edit chapters should not be put in iMovie, but rather added to iDVD where it belongs. The ability to burn a BluRay, and the ability to import a movie by dragging it into iMovie.
for iWork, Better Office compatibility and a database program would be good. for the next OS release.. I would love to see disk utility integrated fully in the Finder AND better open/save dialog boxes. The ability to disable the sidebar in EVERY window including additional volumes by default would be good. This should be independent of the toolbar.

As long as iMovie '06 returns to replace iMovie '08, I'm all for it!

I'm a huge fan of Keynote... but find it wildly unstable.
The frequency with which it causes spontaneous reboots (on both my Intel iMac and Macbook) means that I've been very wary about actually using it to present. If they could fix the stability issues... I'd be very happy.

how about blu-ray support for imovie, could coincide with new blu-ray equipped notebooks?

I would like to be able to blog entries directly from my touch and have them sync to iweb the next time it launches. It's weird that you can't do this already. Also, Iphone templates!

A Keynote > QuickTime export function that ACTUALLY WORKS would be a nice improvement.
