First Look: Tap Tap Revenge Nine Inch Nails Edition
If you enjoy Tap Tap Revenge and you're a fan of Nine Inch Nails, you're in luck. Tapulous has released Tap Tap Revenge Nine Inch Nails Edition (iTunes link). Featuring 13 tracks picked by NIN frontman Trent Reznor, it's the first game on the iPhone that had my wife playing through toothbrushing time with the kids. After getting the device back I discovered there's a giveaway that you enter when you post scores of 150,000 or higher online. The prize? A signed Les Paul guitar and tickets to the NIN show of your choice. On top of all this, the game feels more responsive and flows better than the original Tap Tap Revenge. Tracks from Ghost seem made for Tap Tap, adding to the gameplay instead of distracting from it. The app costs $4.99, and is worth it if you're a fan of the later works of Nine Inch Nails or you love punching the screen with your index finger for hours.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that its much more responsive than the original. My 3G iPhone stutters and jumps on the original, whereas the NIN version scrolls and plays "like butter."

They announced on their site that they're updating the original version of Tap Tap Revenge to include online play! I assume they'll also incorporate some of the things that make the NIN version so smooth.

So is it just stuff off of Ghosts? or is it other stuff as well? Specifically, is there any Pretty Hate Machine on it?

Nope, just Ghosts and The Slip. Unfortunately, the older stuff is owned by a record label.

Ah, that makes sense, never thought about that.... Still I like The Slip anyway.

It'll be easy to play if they use "Closer" as one of the songs. Pfft... tssht... pfft... tssht... pfft... tssht... pfft... tssht... :-)

I hope in the new version they will allow users to play with their own songs. That would make it even better!

Not gonna happen unless Apple allows it in the SDK.

A lot of apps can download new songs from a URL. If they made it so you just had to enter the URL of an audio file you or someone else uploaded, and the game automatically added notes to go along with the beat... Well, let's just say weirder things have happened.

Since Trent Reznor is involved - I'll wait till it's free.
:-)
Why pay when I already own the music - and the first tap tap game - it gets boring quick anyways.

Bought this as soon as it came out, as a huge NIN fan. Turns out they're also working on their own app for release later this year. No details on whether or not it's a rhythm game as well though.
In regards to this: It's much better than the regular Tap Rap Revenge, as others have said. The songs are:
1,000,000
Discipline
3 Ghosts I
Echoplex
18 Ghosts II
19 Ghosts III
Head Down
21 Ghosts III
26 Ghosts III
Demon Seed
31 Ghosts IV
Letting You
9 Ghosts I
All stuff off of the latest 2 records, which were released under Creative Commons, after Trent became free of his label. At $4.99, this is more than worth it for any NIN fan, or an iPhone gaming fan/fan of Tapulous. 5 stars.

As a hardcore NIN fan since 1989, i'm happy to see this. Trent has been doing cool stuff for music lately. I already have the signed guitar (katrina auction) from a show i attended.. and have tickets to the vegas show.. but i'll take more swag.. so i better get practicing since I haven't played the previous version of tap tap much :)
Anyway, nice to see NIN not fading away...

I'm not a huge NIN fan but I found this version to be a LOT more fun than the previous one... I spent about 2 hours last night tap tapping away.
I love that they gave it a bit of a goal now too... you can't just JUMP into HARD or EXTREME you have to work your way up the ladder. Very nice!

Yeah I agree. Never been a NIN fan, but these songs are much more fun.
