Check out Snak for free today only

Personally Colloquy does pretty much everything I'll ever need in an IRC client, and it's already free (although they do appreciate donations if you enjoy the 'ware). But Snak looks like it's got some cool features too, including an "Mp3 list" for... erm... backup downloading, and an "address book" for all your IRC friends. Seems worth trying out, and today at least, you can't beat the price.
Thanks, Alex D!

"A new President, free software, and a look at an IRC client you probably haven't used yet -- what more could you ask for?"
A different new President.

Sounds like Luigi swallowed some sour grapes!

You know all day I've heard nothing but republicans b*tch and moan. Your candidate couldn't even perform to the level bush did in past elections.
on another note thanks TUAW for all this free software advice (its very liberal of you)

Well after the b*tching and moaning you democrats have been doing for the past eight years...

luigi, not to spark a political flame war here, but i think our bitching was more than justified. now its your turn.

Luigi, I wish the same.

WOw - cool - I didn't even know Snak was being actively developed/maintained. Given it's OS 10.2 appearance I thought it was abandonware. Anyway, I'll check it out.

Did anybody else read this part of the post?
"...and leave the Obama drama for your mama."
That meant shut up about the election and just download the free software if you want it. I can't believe TUAW has to spell it out for you and you STILL don't get it.

I used to use Snak exclusively, but now I use Linkinus. It doesn't seem like Snak has changed much at all since the old days, for better or worse. Still looks like a OS X.0/Classic app.

I certainly dig Linkinus myself.

Who cares!? If it works well, that's all that you need. It doesn't matter how pretty or new it works -- all that is really just a waste of developer hours.

Wow. Thanks for being one of the people with such low standards that there's more wretched shovelware around than ever. Mac owners used to take pride in demanding software that was not only well-programmed but well-designed.

Oops. Typo:
"...pretty or new it works" should have been "...pretty or new it looks"

Can we get a recount? The guy's name sounds like he entered the nation illegally. Why can't his name just be something normal like John Smith?

Probably because this is a nation of IMMIGRANTS. I believe McCain is an Irish name, and Smith is a British name. Unless you're a native American, your last names no doubt have their roots in a foreign country.
Someday Obama will be quite the American name -- just wait! You'll get used to it, like everything else.

SNAK FAIL... why offer it and have it not available? Think you'd take down the offer once concluded...
Hi,
Thank you for requesting a free Snak license. We appreciate the interest, but unfortunately the Obama Celebration Giveaway is over. It was a great success with close to 1500 free licenses handed out.
Snak is distributed as shareware. This means it may be used and evaluated without limitations for 30 days at no charge. Unlimited usage requires a license, which costs $29. The license key may be used on as many computers as you want, provided they are only used by you or your immediate family.
Click the Buy Now button from the splash screen to buy a license directly from inside the program. This is the fastest and easiest way to remove the limitations without any delay. The license key is transmitted directly to the program right away so there is no wait and no need to manually enter the license key.
If you use PayPal to pay the license fee you will benefit Kiva, a non-profit microloan organization, and help lift individuals out of poverty. All PayPal payments will be lent out to Kiva to help individuals in the third world. Please see http://www.snak.com/KivaPledge.html for further information, and see http://www.kiva.org for information about Kiva.
Snak comes with an extensive manual, which explains both the program and IRC itself. The manual can be accessed from the help menu, and from the http://www.snak.com website.
The Snak license never expires. It covers free updates to all new versions released for two years after the purchase. To upgrade to newer versions after two years, the license has to be renewed at a reduced rate.
Thanks again to all who voted in the Presidential Election 2008.
From all of us at Snak Software.

Fail. I'm a bit pissed, too. Chronology:
Saw the TUAW post at 850PM. I figured, a freebie, nice!
So I sent off an email requesting a free license. Local time sent: 9:00:29 PM CST.
Local time 10:09:25 PM CST: I got an same email from Snak, same text that david amodt posted above.
It seems like a bit of a cheat to end it before the day is done. And the promotion WAS still up on their page when I originally sent off the email.
Well, unless it is because the author of Snak is based out in Germany? *shrug* I dug around a bit, but didn't see anything.
Actually, I'm guessing he had a set limit of licenses (1500) and he didn't want to give out anymore. Well, then why not just say THAT?
