Ahem... where's the new In-Ear Headphones, Apple?
Gallery: Apple In-Ear Headphones
Some of you might remember the music event in September. Not only did Steve Jobs give us new iPods, but he also promised that Apple would be releasing new in-ear headphones in October. If anyone hasn't noticed, it's now mid-November, and there's no sign of the new headphones anywhere.
Has Apple simply abandoned the release of these new headphones? If history repeats itself, then we might get these sometime next year. When I contacted Apple's sales staff, they told me that there is "no set release date." You can check out the In-Ear Headphones store entry by clicking here; someday you might even be able to buy them for $79 US .

Don't really care about the new headphones, but ...
When in the hell are they going to enable the MobileMe iDisk feature that will enable you to send large files to clients.
Apple Quote: June, 2008
Coming soon: Email large files.
Soon a new feature in iDisk will make it simple to share files too big for email. iDisk will automatically send a message with a simple link. The recipient will just click the link to download the file.
Coming Soon? WTF?
That's what I'll tell my clients from now on. "Ya, that website you already payed me to create. Ummm ... it's coming soon".

Exactly! Such a cool feature... if it would ever arrive.

For now, you can just put the file in your public folder and then send the link to that. For example, if I put a file called 'test.rtf' in my public folder, I could send the link:
http://idisk.me.com/~user/public/test.rtf
It will download the file directly. Remove the 'test.rtf' and they get a listing of your public folder in a browser.

They never supported the iPhone to *begin* with. It's been stupid from the word go.

I wonder if making them compatible is what's delaying them...
KeynoteKen said 8:46AM on 11-16-2008
That's my thinking. Especially considering the iPod that was DESIGNED for them only got updated to WORK with them as of this latest upgrade.

So the mic isn't supported on the iPhone according to the site... Does that not seem really stupid?

Yes, I'm hoping that it was just a misprint, because they seem perfect for the iPhone.

they were announced along with the touch 2g. there was also a pair of regular earbuds with the same mic/control for $29, and those have also not been released yet. i feel like apple needs to release them sometime since the 2g ipod touch is marketed as having mic capabilities, yet no mic has been sold for it yet.
Roosevelt Franklin said 2:08PM on 11-11-2008
Yeah, I can't believe I didn't notice that before. I knew the volume controls/mic wouldn't work with my 160GB iPod Classic, but you'd think the friggin' microphone would work with iPhone! Hopefully that will change. I really need some new headphones. The bass drivers in my piece of crap V-Moda Vibes just died, and I really need some in-ear headphones.

Yes, it's really, really stupid. Why in the WORLD would they not work with the iPhone 3G ?!?!?!?!?

And what about the iPhone notification server for 3rd-party apps?

That's the one I'm really waiting for. I've heard no mention of it being tested in 2.2. At least maybe they are making damn sure it works well before releasing it (even to developers).

I am also looking for the notification feature. I think Apple had the right idea when they kept everything a secret until the day that they were ready to release them. I do wish that they would be better at disclosing details about updates after releases though.

I was asking an Apple Store rep via chat yesterday and they wouldn't give me a date either. I just bought a new iPod Touch and am anxiously awaiting these new headphones with the mic input.

I will definitely not buy them – all Apple-branded ear-phones are not even close to the quality other manufacturers provide. I've been personally using Sennheiser instead (also come in Appleish white).
