Macworld 2009: Interview with Parallels' CEO Serguei Beloussov
Even though we love our Macs here at TUAW and, if you're reading this site, you probably do to, there's some things you might have to use Windows for occasionally. So, what's a Mac user to do in that situation? Well, most of you probably choose one of the popular virtualization applications available for the Mac to accomplish this. One of these popular solutions is from a company called Parallels, which recently updated its Parallels Desktop for Mac application. During last week's Macworld Expo, TUAW's Michael Rose visited the Parallels booth to speak with Parallels' CEO Serguei Beloussov and get all the latest on the company's plans for "virtual" domination.

I've been using Parallels since 2.0. Parallels 4 is a nice upgrade, but I bought VMware Fusion out of curiosity. Let's just say it blows Parallels away and I'll never go back.

Terrible!
PARALLELS IS THE SLOWEST THING IN THE WORLD....
If you really *really* really want to run windows on your mac, you should be running it with VMware.

Great interview, no matter which virtualization product you like.
Can we expect an interview with the folks from VMware as well?

LOL. You guys bad mouthing Parallels in favor of VMware really need a hobby or something. While I've never used VMware Fusion and it very well may be better than Parallels 4, I've had nothing but the best experience with Parallels 4. It may or may not be faster than VMware but it is definitely fast on my Mac. It's stable and reliable. I've thought about VMware but I'm too happy and impressed with Parallels 4 to make the switch. Perhaps in the future I could end up using VMware but it definitely won't be now.

I have been using Parallels and the new version has been solid and fast. I have tried VM and it was good, but I went back to Parallels.
VM didn't have shared folders when I tried them and Parallels v 3.0 did, well before VM did. Without shared folders, for my use, I felt I might as well use boot camp.
So, I went back to version 3.0 of Parallels and did a compress and optimize and the speed was okay. Then, 4.0 came out and I loaded it. Super fast. Version 4.0 simply rocks. The latest update last week fixed a problem I was having with the iSight camera driver in Vista.
Someone should do a comparison between the two products now that they have both gone through major revisions.

Minor correction. VMware Fusion has had shared folders since the earliest public beta. I know because I was one of the beta testers. Several of my feature suggestions made it into the final product.

Not to be the spelling police but...
You made a small error in your first sentence.
[you probably do to] - Wrong to. It should be "too".
Sorry, this comment probably wasn't necessary but the to/two/too thing has always bugged me. :D
Anyway, although I have never used Parallels, I am perfectly happy with VMWare. I bought it based on the review on Apple's site and I don't plan on switching in the near future.

It's not a spelling mistake, so you're not the spelling police.
The irony here is simply delicious! ;-)

Okay, okay. It is not really a spelling mistake as "to" is a word. And it isn't a grammar mistake...
So... an incorrect choice of words?
JKT said 11:10AM on 1-13-2009
Actually it is a grammar mistake as the sentence makes no sense when "to" is used instead of "too". In any case, I "too" would like to see them fix it.

I hate to interrupt the hate/love fest... But does anyone know any more details on what he was saying regarding dedicated video hardware in a MacPro?
Has anyone heard of this before?? Any one done it? This could be HUGE.

Virtual Box is a good free alternative. Suits my needs but I didn't buy my Mac to run alot of Windows apps.
