Google Chrome for Mac: Don't hold your breath
Gather around, Apple fans. I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is that there is a preliminary version of Google Chrome up and running. Sort of. Google's Mike Pinkerton has posted a couple of screenshots of Chrome for Mac on his blog, including the very first time he used it to load a webpage. It's coming, folks. Now the bad news from Mike himself, "We've got a very very long way to go." He says that the WebKit that ships with Mac OS X doesn't do what they developers need right out of the box, and it took a lot of cajoling to get it to comply. If it's anything like the acrobatics I must perform each weekday morning to get my kids out the door in time to catch the school bus, Google's Mac devs will be busy indeed.

Yes, interesting indeed. This means they have figured out (or mostly figured out) how to implement the sandboxing model on OS X. I have an article on my blog speculating about what exactly is taking so long to port Chrome to OS X - http://www.latko.org/2009/02/10/whats-taking-google-so-long-to-bring-chrome-to-os-x/

Looks like the Stainless (stainlessapp.com) will be the only multi-process browser on the Mac for the time being.

Just downloaded stainless, this thing's a beast on a 800MHz iMac G4 with Leo. Waaaaaay faster than Safari/Webkit nightlies. You can even use the nightly WebKit's version of WebKit if you want. Very cool.

From the Google Chrome Dev blog: "Our new goal is to have a multi-process browser limping by the end of the quarter."
They are making tons of progress and are documenting here: http://dev.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/mac-detailed-status

Totally fine with me. Firefox and Safari are both great and by the time Google gets Chrome running on OS X, they'll both be faster, more efficient and more featureful.

I've ditched firefox on my PC and i'd love a super fast browser on my mac.

It would seem that all publicly available information on Chrome for Mac goes against what Mike Pinkerton is saying here and since this article basically uses him as it's sole source It isn't really much of an article at all is it? This is more of a tweet than an article and wouldn't pass muster as a grade 8 essay.

Interesting commentary, but scary that this guy's a developer and never heard of a FireWire 400 to 800 adapter -- see his most recent post.....

ClickToFlash works with WebKit browsers other than Safari, so it would probably work with Chrome as well.
