Magic for your iPhone
The tricks just keep on comin' for the iPhone. Magicard [App Store link] is a good head scratcher that is always ready to perform. Have your assistant cut the cards a few times and select a card. (The method to do this is provided with a built-in tutorial video.) You keep the selected card face down, and place it on top of the iPhone screen. When the card is removed, a mirror image of the card is on the screen. The card can be any number or suit. The app normally starts up with a screen that includes a clickable link to a video tutorial that shows how the trick works. It wouldn't be good for people to see that, so in your iPhone settings menu you can tell the Magicard not to display any of that information when you are about to perform.
Magicard also lets you select a plain black background for the trick, or you can use something from your photo roll. You can even snap a picture with the iPhone camera and use that. Unfortunately, this menu comes up every time you try the trick, and it is an annoyance. You should be able to set the background from the settings menu and forget it until you want to change it.
The trick does not require a lot of skill, but you will need to do one common thing magicians know how to do. If you don't know how, the video tutorial will walk you through the simple steps. I don't think David Blaine will lose any sleep over you performing this trick around town, but it is worth the US $0.99 asking price to see some surprised faces on your friends when you pull this little effect out.
Note: This trick is iPhone only. It will not work on the iPod touch. You can see some videos of the trick in action at the developer web site, along with some variations on the basic trick.

TUAW, when you review Apps, you should put the price in a more visible place. You should put it off to the side right underneath the screenshot where it is apparently not part of the article.

Not a horrible app, but there are some major (and minor) annoyances. As already pointed out, the menu to choose a background *every time* is annoying. You should be able to choose a preference in the settings and have that be the default until you change it in the settings. It kind of blows the trick to see that menu every time, as you have to carefully launch the app and pick a background without the other people seeing.
Another major annoyance is all the cards are mirror images, so most of the numbers are backward. (Ace and 8 work ok, though.) It looks strange to have backward numbers.
Now, for a minor quibble. The developer is obviously not an English speaker. Nothing wrong with that. But, you'd think he could at least use spellcheck before submitting the app. There are numerous typos in the app, in the training video, etc. I don't mind the broken English sentences, but it's not hard to at least get the spelling (and capitalization) right. (Ex: "now show how to forcing card existing many system to force one card i show the metod that comine semplicity of execution and magic efec...whit any normal deck")

The first video on their website is really misleading
To do this trick you have to control the card you set in the MagiCard settings menu and make sure its on top, and then when you cut the deck twice you pick the first face down card when you spread them out.
So you can't really let the spectator pick their own card...you have to do it yourself.
Which takes half of the amazement out of it, since at least when they pick a random card in other tricks they know for sure that you didn't manipulate it somehow
