Google Docs adds spreadsheet editing on the iPhone
A while back we noted that Google had optimized the Google Docs services for viewing on the iPhone (and other mobile devices). It's taken a while, but now it's been announced that some basic editing is possible from the iPhone as well.The interface is a little clunky: you basically have to hit an edit link to adjust any given row of a spreadsheet and scroll to the right to change values for the columns, each within a separate form field. There's no easy way, for instance, to scroll down a column changing the values for each row. Nonetheless, it is now possible to make changes to a spreadsheet, as well as alter the sorting and filtering options.
Even though the implementation is imperfect, I'm happy to see mobile editing in Google Docs spreadsheets and I've already begun to make use of it. We can only hope they'll figure out how to make it a bit more streamlined in the future.

Definitely a cool feature, though it's definitely sluggish in my own use of it so far. I thought it'd be cool to record expenses and whatnot into a spreadsheet, but I'm not so sure.

I'm about to turn away from TUAW- you're giving me news that Engadget, Gizmodo, or even the NYT or Lifehacker told me 2 days ago. That's right- 48 hours. Y'all are hanging on by a thread! Either get up to speed or get out of my RSS feeds. (Sorry, but that's the way it is!)

I would have thought that editing documents (word/text) would have been easier to implement and more widely used. It's a bit surprising that Google opted to make available editing of spreadsheets but not text documents.

exactly. there arent even any paid apps in the app store for text editing of pages, rtf, or word documents. just .txt files, and that's just sad.
i will gladly pay $30 for a full featured office suite akin to Documents To Go.
Mobilefiles Pro has all the features i'm looking for; i'm using their free version for MobileMe access and like it so far, but their Pro version only offers spreadsheet editing.
Just a simple text editor that can save as .doc will be just fine, thank you very much.
and i also agree with the others about TUAW's slow posting of 'news'. it's like they're just scouring engadget 48 hours later instead of being proactive. if you guys need a writer who is able to keep up with the day's events, i'd be more than happy to join the staff.
