MacHeist offers free licenses for DEVONthink via Twitter promotion

Getting your free copy is pretty straightforward; you'll have to follow the MacHeist Twitter account, and then as noted you're required to tweet a promo message for the TweetBlast itself; not sure whether that's 'recursive advertising,' a recession-buster special or plain ol' viral marketing, but free apps are free apps. When you get DEVONthink, you'll also get Hyperspaces and Overflow as well. Also, participants should know that the DEVONthink licenses are for the soon-to-be-obsoleted 1.x version of the app, but if you want to roll your copy forward to the upcoming 2.0 version you'll be able to do so for the upgrade price of $20.
Full details are at the MacHeist website.

MacHeist is calling it a "TweetBlast," we'll call it savvy marketing, but you'll probably just call it "free software, woo!" In an effort...

Yeah, the same thing happened with 1Password. I don't have a problem with this kind of free promotion though, people don't have to upgrade if they don't want to. In the case of 1Password, at one point you had to upgrade though for 1 of the Leopard updates I believe. But then Agile sent out free licenses to everyone, and I got a new 'real' license for the current version even though my MacHeist license was old.
The only time I have a problem is paying for a bundle and not getting a real license, or soon-to-be outdated license. But they seem to have put the kibbosh on that.
I really can't stand this idea of sort PR stunt (i know it's free, blah blah blah) but i don't want "whore" out my twitter like this.
I've been using Evernote instead, which syncs online for sync mutli-os and browser viewing. Has an iphone and windows mobile app. oh yea, it's basic account... free with no twitter prostitution. paid gives a few extra things that i could see using like file attachment.
But littlesnapper is great for web designers' notes and that's it... shame that isn't free. (Paparazzi! + skitch nice free sub fyi)
soo all those people who paid last year, will have to pay again? and then ever year after? kinda sucks. i'll stick with the lite
