New Get a Mac ads after "Laptop Hunters"

Tonight Apple released four new Get a Mac ads that feature the same, and ever so lovable, PC and Mac characters. In the first new ad, "Time Traveler," PC travels into the future to see if PCs still crash. In the ad called "Stacks," PC is shuffling through thousands of photos to find the one he is looking for; Mac then tells him about the facial recognition in iPhoto '09.

In "Legal Copy," PC starts telling how "easy to use" he is, but as he talks, his disclaimer copy appears at the bottom of the sceen. The final new ad, "Biohazard Suit," PC explains his biohazard suit as he tells Mac about all of the recent viruses going around for Windows.

While these ads are funny, you can't help but wonder if this is Apple's response to the recent "Laptop Hunters" Microsoft ads, although with the production schedules involved it's likely that the new Apple ads were already in the can or at least well underway when Lauren and her pals hit the screen. You can watch all of these new ads by going to the Get a Mac page on the Apple site, and we'll be talking about them on the talkcast in just a few minutes.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I have adblock enable on both firefox and safari and it works just fine. Maybe it's time you do some maintenance on your mac ...

"Right now there's little incentive to write a virus for Vista or 7 so it remains to be seen how 7 will stand up when it becomes the majority OS (assuming it does of course)."

As there is for Mac Os X.

I have worked on both mac and Windows(no point at saying PC since both are PC) and they both work great. I have gotten more crashes with Mac os X then with Vista Ultimate.

The system is superior, unless you want to Customize it make it more your own then what apple wants you to see. So you are stuck with a system that you cannot modify or do anything.

Outlook doesn't work for you? Use Mozilla.

I have not had any trouble with contacts.

Doesn't apple make you click at the ULEA(How ever you spell that) every time you get an Update? I don't see that with Windows.

Face recognition was already included in Windows Live Photo Gallery, why are they taking credit that they have a better system?

I have a mac pro 2.66 and use only the windows part of it. the mac partition on gets use when I want to get the updates(and click on the Agreement that apple makes you "sign" every time.

Thats my two cents.

Seeing these makes me realize I don't have to hunt down that dbag that claimed Macs were just for aesthetics and punch him in the face. Apple is doing that for me.

New apple ad

Mac: Hello I'm a mac

PC: and I'm a PC

There's a small stack of ugly brown cardboard boxes behind PC

Average Woman and child walk on from left;
Woman gives PC a kiss on the cheek

Woman: I love you PC

PC: [mock surprise] What me? Oh thank you.

PC slips her a bundle of money;
Woman takes an ugly box and exits left.

Mac: Hey PC what's going on?

PC: What? That, I don't know.

Scruffy 20-something walks on stage from left.

Scruff: Hey PC Dude, I'm not cool either, bump me.

PC and scruff fist bump;
PC slips Scruff another bundle of money.
Scruff takes an ugly box and exits.

PC: Well it seems you're not the only one who's popular around here.

Mac: Yeah, but what's with the money, and those ugly boxes?

PC: I don't know what you're referring to.

Slim mid 20's vixen in hot pants, strapy crop-top and heals, straight blonde hair to mid back stalks on from left.

Vixen: Hey PC [slow sexy voice]

Vixen strokes her hand down PC's chest, then flips it palm up.
PC slips her a double sized bundle of money;
Vixen takes another ugly box and stalks off.
Mac looks on incredulous.

Mac: You don't know anything about the money [eyebrow raised]
You don't have to stoop to this.

PC: Oh o.k. alright. Well it seems that with my 'viruses' and stability problems people just don't like me anymore.
So I hired a few actors to pretend to be my friends.

Mac: Aaah PC, that's low. You don't have to do that. I'm sure there's still the accountants?

PC: No! you're taking over everywhere!

Vixens stalks on to stage from right.
Vixen places hand on Mac's left cheek and and back and kisses Mac languorously on the right cheek, maybe nibbles his ear a bit.

Mac: Erm, I don't buy friends... {this line needs work}

Vixen: Oh don't worry. I love you for who you are.

PC visibly deflates.

Both groups of ads are retarded. Here's how the machines compare, really, from a user of both types of systems.

Apple's hardware follows a fixed price system. So, since the price never goes down as the hardware gets older, people see Macs as more expensive. But if you wait until they get a fresh spec-refresh, you'll find one or two key points about Macs.

1 - The hardware is usually much more powerful, or if it's not -
2 - Apples to apples (tee-hee) comparison of similar spec'ed machines from Apple and a Windows PC vendor are about the same.

So yeah a few months ago before the iMacs got refreshed (and discounted!), yeah, they were more expensive than a PC of comparable hardware. This is in respect to the HARDWARE only. I know there is a difference on the software end, etc. But on the day the iMacs got spec'ed up; if you went a built a similar Dell or whatever, with a 24" screen, surprise! They're about the same. Pretty much the exact same scenario with laptops. Hell right now (back to desktops), the difference between a Dell XPS One and the 24" iMac is negligible! Yeah on a Dell you get a quad-core, but 1/2 the disk space, and a shitty integrated graphics.

So take that at face value, coming for someone who prefers a PC with Windows.

I love this line, it can be applied to non-computer related stuff at my work, or anybody's work really I'm sure:
"I guess I could refine my search method."
"How's that?"
"You do it."

You reminded me of a very obnoxious female co-worker I had to deal with several years ago. She didn't just speak loudly all the time - she brayed.

She was very disorganized and always misplacing her purse, day planner, phone, whatever. Her solution was to shout at the top of her lungs "Who stole my _______!"

To my amazement, most of the people around her at the time would immediately start looking for whatever it was she misplaced. I would just sit back and watch the sideshow.

Not seeing the new commercials yet. I hope they're on tv tonight, though.

I once pulled a working HD out of an old iMac and put it into a G4 tower. Booted up perfectly, first time, no adjustments. Moved it a couple of other times to other machines. Same story. Let's see someone do that with Windows.

I only brought this up because I spent most of the weekend trying to make a DVD drive, video, and networking cards work in my last Windows machine (they have worked for over a year, and just decided to stop). After lots of trying, I was finally able to get the DVD working by "deleting the high and low filters" whatever that means. I know they're still good, because I installed Ubuntu, which accessed them all immediately.

If it was a Mac, this never would have happened. Put THAT in a commercial!

"After lots of trying, I was finally able to get the DVD working by "deleting the high and low filters" whatever that means."

So, you don't know what exactly you were doing while troubleshooting, but you did it anyway? Nice try; I'd suspect you tried to do something without knowing what the effects were when they "magically stopped working". Or.. funny story, this is caused fairly often by the Windows version iTunes, google that one ;)

And by the way, I've absolutely put old hard disks in Windows, Linux, and Mac machines into a new counterpart of the same system; never ever had a problem. The most I had to deal with were some driver installs. Whatever drugs you're on, feel free to give me some, it IS 4/20 after all.
