Beta 4 of iPhone SDK 3 is out
Just a quick heads-up on the flood of tips in our inbox this morning: Beta 4 of the iPhone 3.0 SDK is available now, along with a preliminary build of iTunes 8.2. New features noted by readers include support for additional over-the-air PIM synchronization sources (including Google and Yahoo in iTunes, per Joachim), copy and paste in Calculator, continued tethering support, and a basic UI for managing an iTunes store account. Update: reports coming in that Notes syncing requires Mac OS X 10.5.7, yet another broad hint that the OS revision is due momentarily.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

If you need help getting your UDID activated on a developers account i found the website that i linked to my name above actually found them in facebook, just click on my name to go there. They had me up and running in no time and i now have complete access to their Apple developers account with my own user ID and password. It was worth it, just my 2 cents for anyone who is in the same boat i was.

I'm wondering what the tweaks are, I want to load this on my iphone, but beta 3 was apparently not ready to do that without major issues still.
I can deal with a few bugs, but not a dead battery, crashing all the time etc
anyone try this yet and can comment?

I'm downloading beta 4 now and will report when I have some experience with it, but I had no issues with betas 2 or 3. All of the apps I used the most often worked fine with no crashing (I did find with beta 3 that apps would crash if I tried to interact with them before they had finished loading).

Not sure where you saw reports of beta3 being unstable…perhaps it was only a problem on 3G phones? Still, I never heard about it.
I've been using OS 3.0 beta3 for a week or two, and have had only one minor problem, which was related to slow connectivity from my LDAP server. Wasn't the beta's fault. Overall, it's been quite stable, and I've been impressed with the speed with which major app developers have been issuing "my app had a 3.0 glitch" fixes.
That said, I'm eager to see a "real" list of what's new in beta4. The LDAP, CalDAV and .ics connectivity is not new, nor is copy/paste in Calculator.app. And IIRC, the Google/Yahoo sync settings from within iTunes aren't new either (I don't use them).

I had a freinds coworkers complaining about the issues. they work at an apple reseller and were regretting installing the 3.0 update as it was draining their battery and crashing during calls.
and yes, I have a 3g, if you're finding it accetable, I'm tempted to make the switch (have a dev account here at work) but I'm still hearing issues with some apps not working,
also,.. my primary machine isa pc. that's where my itunes account is, my mac is secondary as it's a work machine.
can I still update?
thanks

OK, color me confused. Is there some reason all of you who are asking to be added to someone else's dev account don't just sign up for the free ADC membership and download the SDK? You don't have to fork over your $99 until it's time to get a signing cert... so am I missing something?

you do need to pay 99$ to be able to install iphone 3.0 OS on your iPhone.
