WWDC Quick/Cut: Dave Teare of Agile Web Solutions on 1Password

We, of course, had lunch with our favorite Canadian developers at WWDC. Talking with Dave, Roustem and the rest of the crew from Agile Web Solutions is something I look forward to anytime we're all in San Francisco. I didn't film the whole lunch; being filmed eating is almost as awkward as eating alone in the cafeteria, I think. So here's a quick -- but very interesting -- clip of Dave Teare explaining how cut-and-paste in iPhone OS 3.0 is going to be used in 1Password. If you're a 1Password user, you'll probably want to check it out!

Hey Dave-

Any chance of 1Password for iPhone OS tying into Mobile Safari's AutoFill feature? Is that, maybe, not as secure as copying/pasting passwords out of the 1Password app itself? Seems as though that could eliminate the need to manually type in user names, if not also passwords themselves.

Well, I kinda knew that Snow Leopard comment might get some flak, but I couldn't help it! A $30 upgrade is unheard of and I was very excited :)

Let me be very clear by what I meant: I was speaking about making the new 3.0 release Snow Leopard only. As for PPC and Tiger users, they would be not be left out in the cold as version 2 and 3 are data compatible, allowing you to run version 3 on your newer Macs and version 2 on your older Macs.

With that said, it was just an idea we were kicking around. Targeting Leopard is most likely what we'll do, but it's fun to dream :)

Ditto clesch's comment. I'm sure I'll be putting 10.6 on my MacBook, and I'll be glad for 1Password support on that, but it won't be going on the wife's iBook, or my sister's iBook, or my parents G5... i.e. the people I've bought 1Password licenses for, and who probably -would- pay for the next version if it ran on their machines.

Agreed, I have 1password on my G5 Tower, my sister's G5 iMac and my new Macbook... looks like it'll only be useful for the MB now. Which is unfortunate cause my tower (the old work horse) was the hub for all my syncing, between our phones and the like.

Everyone needs to seriously calm down. Dave was very clear that he was just tossing the idea around… "just speculating". I know the company well enough to be quite certain they'd never leave their entire PPC-using customer base hanging in the wind.

Hmm. I wonder if Dave Teare considered the fact that Leopard is going to be the last OS to run on the PowerPC architecture. Snow Leopard will be Intel only.
