A history of Macintosh gaming

Feeling nostalgic? Applemctom has posted a great video detailing the evolution of Mac gaming from Dark Tower, released in 1986, right up to the resurgence and explosion of gaming on the iPhone.
Take a look and see if your favorites are covered. My vote for inclusion in the sequel is Wolfenstein 3D.
Here's the video:

There's a history?

Yes, but unfortunately, no current events. :(

lol... Wolfenstein 3D explained in his wonderful accent would be bliss.
I'm shocked there is no Journeyman Project on here. The original and Buried in Time are some of my all time favorite adventure games, and they were a big part of Mac gaming in the early to mid nineties for a lot of people, myself included.

I just discovered that Wolfenstein 3D is out as an iPhone app.
Who would have guessed?

If I'm not mistaken, it is completely open source as well. You can get the iPhone version's source at the game's website.

Yeah, a really definitive history this. Misses Alice: Through The Looking Glass (Mac 128K, recently resurrected for iPhone), goes downhill from there.

You can't forget Leisure Suit Larry (though I never played it). I've got an old Mac Classic at home with a bunch of black and white games that I pull out for the kids about once a year. After an hour a so, it goes back into storage.

Ah Leisure Suit Larry! I can't remember if I played that one the IIgs or the Mac.
The first really snarky game I can remember.

What a classic, better than Zorg!

They mention Marathon but not Bungie's other awesome series...Myth. I still fire up Myth II: Soulblighter on my Mac to this day. It even still has a community around it that releases new patches and new content. mariusnet.com has taken up the mantel of the venerable bungie.net. Ah, the memories.

The video left out a lot. It's didn't seem like it wanted to be definitive, it just wanted to show some games the author remembered, and still had to provide a screen shot.
I'll bet that everyone one of use making a like video would come up with different games, outside of maybe Myst.

Yeah, that was lame.

And not one mention of Glider? Tsk. That's as classic Mac as it gets.

Misses tons of early games, like Balance of Power, Uninvited, Airborne, etc.
Really poorly researched. It comes off more like a history of this guy's Mac games.

"The era of shitty ROM games?" What kind of accent is this? ;) But seriously: the video leaves out a lot and misrepresents some things.

Dark Tower? Ha ha, I think you meant Dark Castle. There's a forum out there for Dark Castle fans like myself:

The Marathon Series is the apex of true mac gaming. It's still played too and is open source.

I would love to still be able to play crystal quest, marathon, shufflepuck, and all the old ambrosia titles on modern macs. I'd think those guys would make some money updating them.
