WWDC Video: AOL's Christina Wick on developing for Macs, iPhones
I had a moment to talk to Technical Director Christina Wick at WWDC. She told us about the Mapquest app, plus a cool lifestreaming feature coming soon to AIM. Christina was featured in a video by Apple about developing on the iPhone, and it's clear AOL has embraced the platform, with several apps performing exceptionally well on the store. We've covered AIM, DailyFinance and MapQuest in the past, but there are others as well (and we think a certain blog will get one someday...). Christina's team has been working hard not just on the iPhone, but polishing up the old AOL client for Mac too in a push called "Back to the Mac" -- it has been completely re-written and is much more Mac friendly than... well, it just wasn't Mac friendly at all 3 years ago. We can't wait to see what apps and desktop software her team releases in the future.
Note: AOL is also the corporate parent of TUAW & Weblogs Inc.

In the late 90's and early 2000's AOL did not give a C.R.A.P. about the Mac platform. Now they want to come back and serve the Mac community because their business is failing. Listen up you capsized barge also known as AOL, I for one am not interested in your garbage

Good job not only reding the article but then further commenting on it on an aol hosted site. That shows you realllly don't care.

Sadly the C.R.A.P. project was shut down, yes.

Yeah, why should we support anyone interested in supporting our chosen platform. They don't deserve to help make our platform a success. OSX doesn't need third party interest of any sort in order to be a success.
Why don't you pull your head out of your ass, moron.

I'm seeing more and more, the comment from developers about reusing code from their iPhone apps in Mac desktop versions. It's also happening in the other direction, but that's usually from established Mac developers moving onto the iPhone. Here, we see companies wanting so much to be on the iPhone, they are eager to learn Cocoa (Touch) programming, whereas before, they were reluctant to learn it when it was a barrier to Mac development. Now, all of these developers new to OS X programming via the iPhone are discovering they now already have most of a Mac app and are over the hump of making other Mac apps.

Yeah, I think that's certainly by design. I'm hoping to see the door swing the other way at some point and iPhone devs do more on the Mac side.

Lifestreaming? Does that mean I'll be able to attach Materia to my iPhone?
