Falling in love all over again with the Mac Classic iPhone case
For those of us who are old enough to remember it, the classic "smiling Mac" was the face that first made us fall in love with a boxy little beige computer. Now Colorado designer vanMourik on Etsy.com has created a felt iPhone case that brings back that first love...Available for only US$25, the Mac Classic iPhone case [link to Etsy] is a handmade work of art. While it's cute enough to grace the purse of a fashionista, it's also cool enough to be found in the cluttered laptop case of any Mac geek. There's even a embroidered Apple rainbow logo!
If some enterprising developer could create an iPhone app to go along with the case that would play the startup beep of the original Mac when the iPhone is removed from it, that would bring tears to the eyes of legions of Mac faithful.
Well done, vanMourik!

I wouldn't mind a MacBook Pro slip case in the same fashion!

$25 for $1 of printed fabric poorly stitched by hand? No thanks. It looks like it would fall apart pretty quickly.

Sorry, it's not fabric, but glued felt.

Actually, it's $5 for a $1 piece of glued felt, $5 for the hand stitching and $15 for the idea.
You're just pissed you didn't think of it first. weenie.

$5 for the hand stitching? Really?
Etsy is all about handmade - I'd say this took at least an hour to make from start to finish; time taken to photograph and write the listing (not a particularly quick process on Etsy); multiply that by a decent hourly wage and it's not exactly a ripoff. This was made by a person - a real person living in the US, not some sweatshop far away. If you wouldn't pay $25 for it, fine, but someone obviously thinks it's worth it!

I'd like one too.
Does anyone else absolutely hate that screeching noise the iPhone makes whenever you connect it to the computer? Give me the skinny Mac bong anyday!

Even better than the case was your link to the story of the Macintosh on Folklore.org (as told mostly by Andy Hertzfeld). I'm now hooked and will probably have to read the entire thing which consists of hundreds of fascinating stories.

I'm sure those are great for those really warm/overheating iPhone 3GSs.

In response to your question regarding an iPhone app that went along with the case, you can download Mactracker for iPhone. It's like everymac.com for your iPhone and contains startup chimes and sounds from many of the original Apple computers. They also do a desktop version!
