MLB updates At Bat 2009 for iPhone, gives live streaming to MLB.TV users
If you're a baseball fan you already have it. If not, you're missing a lot, and now MLB has updated At Bat 2009 [App Store link] to include more video streaming for fans who already subscribe to MLB.TV. That means as of today, those subscribers can watch all the remaining games this season (subject to blackout restrictions) on their iPhone or iPod touch. The app has also been tested for iPhone/touch compatibility with version 3.0 of the Apple software. Regulars users of the app who haven't subscribed to any of the special MLB packages still get one free live streaming video game a day to watch, as well as all the current features of the app, including streaming audio from every MLB game as it is played.
I really like the app; my only complaint is that my favorite team which is supposed to be at the top of the list gets shunted down when other teams are the featured live streaming game. I'm hoping that is fixed in this new version, but it is too early to test it.
At any rate, if you're a big fan of the boys of summer, just check the App Store and update. It's especially good if you subscribe to to MLB.TV or MLB.TV Premium.
Batter up!

MLB At Bat is really a good app. Other media outlets (other sports leagues, TV networks, etc...) should follow their lead and provide more access to content via the iPhone.

They fixed the issue with your favorite team. Now, it should be the first game that shows available if you select a team as your favorite. No longer is the "TV game" the first one. Awesome app!

So, I still need to buy the app for $10 to watch the games on my phone, when I can watch them on my mac for nothing extra (once you've subscribed I realize)? They aren't giving MLB.tv subscribers the app for free?
Am I missing something?

I think you're missing that MLB is a business and sells products for money. They could have kept it how it was, with no benefit to MLB.TV subscribers.

Woah, that came across more harsh then I intended. What I meant was, I'm glad they're giving an extra benefit to MLB.TV subscribers to also watch on the go.

Greenie...
Don't worry it wasn't harsh at all. I was just thinking that as a business they could bundle the two and sell a little more. At $10 for me it is too costly and duplicitous to the service I have.
Either way, I think that MLB is doing a great job of getting innovative content delivery out there.

Nevermind... Looked at it again and it showed a free video today.

You left out the fact in your article that if you don't subscribe to MLB.tv for $15/month you're out of luck for watching ANY streaming games on the iPhone app.
I could have wiped myself with my $10 and gotten more value with the same amount of pain.

Wow! I almost spent 10 bucks a few days ago just to watch those 2 free games every day.
Now MLB literally changed the rule in the middle of the game. I can imagine how people that was mislead to buy the app because of the two live games are felling disappointed right now.

You can still watch a free game in the MLB app, they just changed the location of it. Instead of being at the very top (which was quite annoying) they put in line with all the other games and just put a little headline above the game that says it is the "free game of the day"
Digaos said 5:22PM on 7-21-2009
Thanks for clearing that up, Tim.

Tim...that literally must have shown up on my iPhone after I read your post because you're absolutely right--it's there now. I didn't mind the way they used to do it--at least you knew where the games were at the start. Plus, us redheaded stepchildren aren't good enough to know what games are going to be free in advance I guess...gee, why don't you wait until the first pitch to let us know? :-\
Just to vent a bit further, I can't believe what a bait and switch job this has turned into. They touted this at WWDC and made everyone think that they were going to follow through with this until the end of the season. At least give us this until next year--THEN you can drop the bomb with the new 2010 version. To pull this mid season is an insult--I won't be buying this again next year...it's back to the free version for me.

So, they're now only offering one video stream per day, down from "up to two"?? Bummer.
But still, MLB.com At Bat is probably the best app in the store.

I agree. Except for the digital crack that Peggle is, this IS the best app in the App Store

As someone who's already a subscriber to the mlb.tv premium package, and has already bought the iPhone app, this is an awesome (and obvious) addition to the app. Otherwise, I can see how some of you cheapskates might be miffed. Oh well.

um Cheap how about the fact you pay $9.99 and then if you want the best MLB.tv package you gotta pay atleast 70 bucks or 20 bucks a month to watch your games.

I really don't see how anyone can complain. MLB.tv was set up to be able to LISTEN to every home and away game for the entire frickin' year for $10!!!!! Then, they added the free 1-2 games to watch. That was a bonus. You still get at least one freebie game every day.
I can (sort of) understand if you were already subscribed to watch online, you should be able to get the mobile version, but I can also see the developers side. If you offered every game in HD for $70 a year, plus $10 more to include mobile watching, I don't think that's such a terrible offer. MLB has really done something right here.

HOW do I, as a paying subscriber to MLB.tv, get all of the games on the app for streaming? I am currently only getting the one freebie that everyone else is getting. Anybody?

I purchased this application the day it was released and was so disappointed that it didn't offer archived feeds of the radio broadcasts. I live in Japan, and listening to games live in the middle of the night just isn't feasible.
Archived radio is already available through the desktop GameDay subscription, so I hope MLB decides to add the archived radio to the IPhone app next season.
