Mandatory Delicious Library 2.2 update released
Delicious Library 2 has just issued a mandatory 2.2 update that all users must install if they want to actually scan in, update or look-up new items automatically. As of August 15, 2009, Amazon.com requires all applications that use its data and API to digitally sign information requests. This update complies with that requirement.
The Delicious Library iPhone app was pulled from the App Store last month because it violated Amazon's terms of service. This was a blow to many of us who like to manage or access their media collections on the go.
In addition to complying with the new Amazon.com policies, Delicious Library 2.2 fixes a few bugs (including the largest single source of crashes) and brings in Snow Leopard compatibility.
Delicious Library 2.2 is a free update for all 2.0 users. Delicious Library requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or higher. New licenses are $40US.

Will this break the ability to sync our DL2 iPhone apps with the desktop version, for those of us who were lucky enough to download the iPhone app before it got pulled?

Exactly my wonder. Normally, I wouldn't worry - but since this update specifically addresses the data that got the app in trouble in the first place, I think warning bells are worthy.

Well, since this update is "mandatory", I guess there's little choice but to update and see what happens. :(

That IS the question. I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Does this mean the App can come back to the store?

Unfortunately, no. Amazon seems pretty dead-set against letting people access the data set from a mobile app. For whatever reason.

Their app, of course, is immune to said limitation. Bullshit.

Agreed. It sucks and is utterly stupid. I can see the potential for like, abuse. But let mobile apps do digital signing like regular app developers can do.

So who's gonna be the first guinea pig? :)

I didn't knew of the Appstore pull so I updated it without thinking it twice, I just tried to sync and it worked flawlessly :)

Just downloaded the update - it doesn't break the iPhone app functionality for those who were lucky enough to get it... thankfully!

Syncing to the iPhone app continues to work after the update, for those of us that have it. ;)

Just for clarification, if you never made the upgrade to 2.0, there is also an update to 1.7.

So, the mandatory just means that getting the info from Amazon will no longer work otherwise, right? Not that DM is remotely sending some trigger to DL that says 'stop working!'
'Cause that would be unfortunate.

Exactly. Although without the Amazon connectivity, adding or updating new items won't really work (in terms of cover art, synopsis info, actors), so it's the equivalent of it not working.

Hey Christina,
Have a few questions:
1. Will the old version 2.0 stop working ?
2. I have the iPhone app, can ver2.2 sync with the app ? (Or the feature is removed)
Let me know. Thanks.
