Software Update: 10.6.1 debuts
Although it seems like just yesterday (or at least a few days ago) that Snow Leopard debuted, the hotly anticipated 10.6.1 has just hit the ground running. 10.6.1 introduces a number of bug fixes and tweaks for "the stability, compatibility, and security" of your Mac. Highlights include:- Printer compatibility enhancements for printers that do not properly appear in the Add Printer browser.
- Bug fix for DVD playback (when playback stops abruptly)
- Bug fix for the Dock (bug prevents removal of icons from the Dock)
- Bug fix for account set up and sending mail via SMTP servers in Mail
- Bug fix for Sierra Wireless 3G modems
- Adobe Flash Player update (new plug-in version 10.0.32.18)
The download is now live via Software Update.

yes, and really pointless...
they should be fixing real bugs, that are getting ignored, while they add one-click purchasing improvements to itunes...

That (like the guy above me said), really was fast.
This does mean Apple is dead serious about security fixes though, which proves a few points, if you ask me.
And I already downloaded flash player a bunch of times, including the one noted. Didn't even show up in my Software Update.
I didn't do it for the fixes though; Flash Player just slurps away insane amounts of CPU and RAM. Ironically, silverlight does not suffer this issue.
None of the other issues bothered me. I have a small other ones (World of Warcraft and VisualHub being two notable ones), but they are not THAT notable.
Apparently not just the code about Snow Kitty is fast!

Flash takes tons of CPU power because it cannot use hardware acceleration - Silverlight can.

I promise, the first time I actually hit some silverlight content on the intarwebs without looking for it I'll install the plugin. ;-)
And if it's for ads that I then can't block (as adblock can flash), I'll deinstall it...

That the Mac OS X security is in fact simply stated; better, than windows'.
I mean come on. It's been 2 weeks (less?) that Snow came out, and we already have our first point release. Apple is pretty serious about this.

It usually only takes a couple of weeks for the 10.x.1 updates to come out - this isn't particularly fast.
I'm disappointed it doesn't fix more - I've experienced multiple issues - but at least they got the Flash update out reasonably quickly.

I JUST downgraded my Mini b/c of the DVD/Front Row hiccups... I see a note about DVD player, but not my issue (or the one reported here at TUAW). Can anyone running a last gen Mini confirm fix?

So, Firefox 3.5.3 was released today too, and when you upgrade the first thing it does is tell you you're using an insecure old version of the Flash Player. So I upgraded mine already.
Later the same day, and with *unaccustomed* alacrity, Apple post the flash update. Wonder if that's a coincidence. :-)

Apple already sent out a warning about a week ago that Snow Leopard installs an older version of Flash.

I just installed the new SL update 10.6.1 and just like when I installed SL 10.6 y GrowlMail was incompatible .... AGAIN Luckily that is the only add-on that does not work ... I am still waiting for a DeliciousSafari that works with SL too

yep, MailTags and OmniFocus integration are gone again too, but the sorting of smart mailboxes not being remembered is not fixed.

Sounds like they forgot to fix the Sort by Date bug in the Finder (for those who haven't noticed it sorts the Creation Date/Modified Date Columns alphabetically instead of by the timestamp).

Interesting. That seems to be language dependent: on my system (set to German), the order is correct.

I have a horrible bug where SubmitDiagInfo starts up every half hour or so and swallows up about 750mb of RAM and most of my CPU cycles, leaving my MBP barely responsive until I kill it. I reported it, but as I haven't heard of anybody else having this problem I don't have much hope that .1 will fix it.

I'm having the same problem, except that the submitdiaginfo process is taking over 1 GB of RAM and over 3 GB of virtual memory. I'm going to report it to Apple the first chance I get. It's a major pain. The last time it happened, I had to restart my system — it didn't stop lagging even after I killed the process and it regurgitated the memory it had taken.
