Apple shows new Get a Mac ad tonight: "PC Innovation Lab"

One of our readers was watching TV tonight and spotted this ad during a commercial break. Lo' and behold, It was up on Apple's website about 2.5 hours later. It basically suggests ridiculous "innovations" that PC thinks will help bring people back to the world of Windows. Mac goes on to suggest that innovations are supposed to make things easier. I find this ad extremely satisfying... it's almost a jab at all of the companies who try to imitate Mac but really just brings good humor to a clever Get a Mac ad.
Thanks Ethan!

I saw this ad just a little while ago. It's the funniest I've seen in a while.

After yesterday's let down, they have no right to air this commercial.
Sorry, I'm still buying a new iPod (dear Best Buy, hurry up. You've already charged my gift cards and credit card), but yesterday's "huge event" was kind of underwhelming.

I don't know what you're talking about.
The Touch is now way cheap and I'm loving the crap out of iTunes 9. It's the most significant update to iTunes in a long, long time.

Being cheaper and syncing up production lines (using the 3GS spec for the touch) isn't really innovative. It's smart business, yes, but hardly new.
iTunes 9 looks nicer(sometimes), but losing the shopping cart in the store sucks(I know, now I can "wish list!" it, but forcing 1-Click is lame). And since I am a Classic user (I'm more interested in storage space than apps), the update for app management is utterly lost on me.
It wasn't a bad announcement, just nothing special, IMO.

@Darren
You really don't know what he's talking about? Really?.. How about the Nano getting a camera, but not the Touch? And the excuse being that the Touch is a great gaming platform. You know, because Nintendo, who have the best selling mobile gaming platform didn't just add a camera to their latest revision. And because obviously a camera is better suited on something that will be in your pocket more often than not over something that will be in your hands

It's about time a Mac ad focused the spotlight on a few of Apple's notebook features instead of going after Microsoft exclusively. Sure, this ad takes a jibe at other PC hardware vendors, but I think this was done in much better taste than the past videos from this year and part of the last.
Apple is trying to sell hardware, which in turn is loaded with their software. They were making fun of the problems with Windows Vista and Microsoft's actions/inactions, rather than promoting their own capabilities, which may have contributed to the mild success of the Laptop Hunters campaign. This is a good thing for both Apple and MS though; Windows 7 is coming out and will be a fairly good operating system, and by then, many decent brands of computers will have hardware fully capable of running it. At the same time, Apple has built up a formidable product line topped off with a brand new operating system as well. It would be good for both companies to avoid smearing each other and regain a more respectable image (while also maintaing fierce competition and lower prices).
Well, enough said, it was a much better ad from Apple.

That was a bit confusing and rushed in my opinion.
Why didn't they actually just show the tech instead of making fun of PC?

Bubble wrap... there's an app for that!
Good ad... gets the message across...
For those who complain about the media event yesterday - go watch it again, download and install iTunes 9.0 and USE IT. Then complain. I just doubled my wife's and my music portfolio - over 70,000 items I can now load and view and play from my computers and my iPop Touch or iPhone - no need to double purchase anymore.
Ease of use just skyrocketed.
And all the little hidden thingos are great... but I will let you discover hem yourself.
Cheers from Downunder...

Did anyone catch the last "innovation", the 4x coffee cupholder?
A bit subtle...

What's an iPop?
With iTunes Plus, why would you be purchasing songs twice? (which for the price I think it was worth it awhile ago to upgrade)
With a home network setup, I thought you could share your library over a local network? Especially if you authorized the computers to play your DRM?
Not sure how they do things down in the British Gulags, but it seems a bit backwards...

iPop is a typo - they happen when you can't edit! I can correct it with an additional entry but you can't fix your deprecating attitude. It is just a part of your genetic make up - just like you can't really cure ugly. Just look at your kids.
I am well aware that you can "share" over a network but prior to iTunes 9.0, I could not copy songs from my wife's iTunes onto my iPod(p) Touch ;) and carry them away from the house.
And before iTunes Plus, people were actually purchasing songs. I know it is amazing to you (must be a rain soaked addled brained Pommy) but we do spend money here in Oz and you might want to consider who is living in a police state now - think CCTV all over the place in the UK - very few in Oz.
Your gulag is much closer now...
Funny Australia (Oz, Downunder, etc.) is also referred to as "The Lucky Country"... for good reason.

My parents nor grandparents nor great grandparents nor any of my ancestors were British criminals. Your aspersions prove your cultural ugliness. The greatest amount of cultural destruction has been because of the arrogance of the Poms. Think about it.
I am a naturalised Australian of about 15 years. I am an Australian by choice.
V8 is for Pommies who can't handle cold beer. Please do not get me started about Pommies and I guess you are content with a camera on every lamp post and up your okolie - 1984 is alive and well in the UK, aye!
Scotty said 7:01PM on 9-11-2009
Ok. I apologize. Though we don't drink V8's. That's that American tomato juice crap.

Sorry to be picky but Downunder is normally Australia, a completely different hemisphere to Britain. Their Gulags have more sand :-)
Ohhhhh, unless that is a subtle reference to the UK's strategy for populating Australia? nice, just got it :-)

Even as a loyal Mac fan I have never liked these adverts, just as i don't like Mac users testifying to everyone how fantastic their Mac's are.
Taking a shot at Microsoft on every occasion just seems childish and pompous on Apple's part, I would much prefer an advert which goes in to detail on the features of the product much like the iPhone advert.
The UK adverts were played by two of my favourite comedians and even then they irritated me, the US ads are even worse.

I don't care much for the NA ads neither, but look up some of John Hodgman's work. He's an excellent comedian.

I think Apple are the one not innovating after this last event:-
* FM radio - well virtually every other MP3 player has one of these for years
* Video - on the nano! most phones can do that and upload automatically using services like Qik, etc
* Larger screen - oooooh
Come on Apple, you can do better!
