Apple store is down... and now back up
The online Apple store is currently down. Considering it's the middle of the weekend for folks in the Western Hemisphere, and considering that we haven't heard much in the way of rumors concerning new products or product updates, this is more than likely just a maintenance update. We'll be monitoring the store's status and try to determine what, if anything, has changed when it comes back up.And... it's back up. Nothing much appears to have changed, aside from some reports of pricing changes on refurb iPods and the 'new' badges on some products.
Thanks to the many readers who sent this in.

yes, but it would be funny if instead of a 'maintenance update', they unveiled the new Apple Tablet, the new iPod Touch with camera, the new MacBook Pro with core i5/i7 AND OS X 10.7...
That would be an update and a half !

Apple never announces products in such an innocuous manner. Apples modus operandi is via much fanfare, with fireworks and dancing girls.

It was a joke, Stan.

there is NO camera in the touch. get over it. yes they might have considered it. but decided no. perhaps in a year when they are wrong about the games thing and the marketing didn't work.
as for the rest, they wouldn't do something like the tablet without a full court press.
they were probably installing Snow Leopard Server

LAGal ("get over it" - feisty aren't we?) and Stan9548:
Personally whether or not the ipod touch has a camera or not makes no difference to me, I have an iphone... However many people seemed very keen for this product to be released.
As with the rest of the items i listed, it was my poor attempt at a little light humour :) I'll try harder next time :P

OMG! that would be amazing exhaust if you are right lol. I would crap my pants if that happened. And if it did a good explanation for it would be that steve jobs is took to many of his kidney meds and is tripping balls at his mac and is just adding every thing right now to the apple sight. cant wait for his reaction when he comes down off his meds lol.

Wow, 2 hours of maintenance so far. And I was actually going to buy something, too.

New iMacs and/or MacBook/s?
exhaust said 6:26AM on 9-20-2009
I thought they were saving imac/macbook for October to "destroy" the windows 7 launch? maybe, maybe...
TheBen said 7:23AM on 9-20-2009
Well...October is right around the corner if you haven't noticed ;) (even though Windows 7 will be launching in about a month from now).

I have often wondered why Apple needs to "take down the store" for updating. iTunes store content is updated continuously without being taken down.
If a web site is dynamic, it is rather easy to structure it so new content can be added, and tested without being "accessible" to visitors.
Then, at the "flip of a switch" the site is transformed to include the new content... "Ta-Dah"!
