Three new iPhone ads make their debut on prime-time television
Were you watching the two-hour season premiere of House last night on Fox? Maybe you were watching one of the other prime-time shows, but if you had your eyes on the screen during some of the commercial breaks, you probably saw at least one of the three new iPhone ads that hit the airwaves last night. Each of the new ads highlights a total of six apps, up from the three that were formerly the focus of the older ads. The first ad I saw last night, "Dine," looks at Zagat to Go, QuickOffice, TripCase, New York Subway 09, Epicurious Recipes & Shopping List, and Gap Style Mixer. [Note: all app links will open the iTunes App Store]
The next ad I viewed was "Nature," featuring iXpenseIt, Daily Finance, Guitar Toolkit, Lonely Planet Mandarin Phrasebook, iBird Explorer Plus, and the ever-popular Pizza Hut app. I didn't get a chance to see the third advertisement, "Pass," until I visited the Apple website this morning. It's a 30-second quick look at Fandango, G-Park, VocabWiz College Vocabulary, 365 Crosswords, Classics, and ABC Animals.
I'm happy to see that Apple is maintaining focus on the number and variety of apps in the App Store, instead of resorting to the narcissistic, touchy-feely, celebrity-filled tripe that T-Mobile has been using for their Android-based MyTouch 3G ads.

I've always felt this way with the iPhone ads, but I love the way they just show us how the thing works & what it can do. Really, that's the beauty of it all.
I only wish they'd do the same with Mac ads.

Do the commercial feature the whole bunch of bugs included with 3.1, for sure those "random features" are standing out!

Something tells me that no, they didn't highlight that in the commercials. And what a lame way to bring up your gripe, to boot.

The commercials do a good job of showing off the apps. Thanks for the heads-up, as I don't watch most TV anymore so I usually miss them.

Heh, "there's an app for that." Try using Shazam or Midomi. :)

Something tells me that it won't work, what with the talking and editing of the music and all.

The apps can be hit or miss, but you might be surprised when it does work. I know I was!

Well my suspicions were true.
Anyone else?

I whipped out my iPhone, ran Shazam, and fed it the Apple ad. It took a few tries, but it DID find the song! "Submarine Symphonika" by The Submarines.

Guess you had better luck than I did. Either way, thank you so much! As it turns out, I already have a couple of songs from The Submarines. This was a great excuse to Complete My Album. :)

I like how in these ads the battery and service bars are always full. We all know thats impossible.

5 bars of 3G goodness here and a battery at 71%, but only because I left the phone off the charger last night.
Travis Walls said 12:46PM on 9-22-2009
Yeah... No. I have five bars on AT&T (inside my office I might add), three bars on Wi-Fi, and a battery with like 99% left. Pretty sure it isn't impossible.

Re: celebrities in the ads
Well I heard Mr. T was going to be in a commercial for the iPhone. My source was a 13 yr old who heard it from his friends in junior high. So, I'm not sure if this is true or not. :)

How about the iBird Explorer app, how cool is that? It plays the sounds of birds so you can attract them to yourself. Then has a search engine to ID them.
