The AT&T MMS launch: How was it for you? A TUAW Poll
The long awaited and much vilified AT&T MMS service was finally launched in the U.S. yesterday. I've scoured the Apple support boards, and it seems like it was pretty tame, with some reports of failure to get the update, failure to get the MMS functions after an update, late delivery of MMS messages, and so on.In my own circle of friends it seemed to go OK, but most of them didn't need MMS and didn't really care about it one way or the other.
So how was it for you? The update of your dreams, or your worst nightmare?

I had a similar problem. Did you happen to have a first gen iPhone? Apperently when some people upgraded their phones AT&T's backend didn't update. Unfortunately I don't think the csrs or tech people know how to correct it. I had to put in a trouble ticket and a higher up fixed it and called me back within an hour

I had an issue because I had a first gen iPhone first and then upgraded to a 3G in December and AT&T hadn't updated their back-end systems. Once they did that I was good to go.

Smooth upgrade, MMS worked flawlessly.
The worst part has been having to explain the upgrade process to worried people who don't read tech blogs or read iTunes dialog boxes.

Question...why can't I send audio? Why can't I receive an mms from a sub 150 msrp phone properly? I can't receive a pic with background music or vocals. It comes through as two messages (2 attatchments). That ruins the fun of funny mms. Plus how in the world can you forward these multiple part messages? I may be ignorant, but I don't think it's capable to pull off these things. My favorite times of catching something cool on a pic and putting down a funny message are gone. I thought we're moving forward, not backwards. However, the iPhone is great! Especially to a ex ATT wireless, Cingular wireless, and pacific bell salesperson that has used every phone in the book.

Why isn't there an option for "I've had this in my country since 3.0, this isn't news to me"
AT&T does seem shitty, not sure what they're actually like as I don't live in the US and have had no interaction with the network

Didn't mean to sound like a prink btw, just feeling left outta the poll :(

No, your comment is entirely appropriate. I am thoroughly sick and tired of seeing AT&T news on an iPhone blog. It would be one thing if we were seeing news regarding all the carriers that have exclusive agreements to sell the iPhone but that's not the case.
If I want AT&T news, I'll read a blog about AT&T.

You're right. What does AT&T's MMS launch for the iPhone have to do with the iPhone or any Apple product?

Here here. I live in Australia and have MMS and Tethering since it was introduced on the iPhone. Now I dont have visual voicemail so I would like to know when 3 Australia will be offering that (since Vodafone their JV partner already does). Will you be covering that too?

well as the domain ends .com which is the upper level for the US and ATT is the exclusive carrier for the united states, do the math.

I wouldn't say it "seemed slow" but definitely wasn't perfect at first. Just couldn't send for a while. Received OK - but no sending. Was fine after a couple hours though and OK now!

Did you connect your iPhone to iTunes and click update? If you didn't, then do that, and turn the iPhone off and on again.

I was having the worst time with my update, and I ended up having to change out my sim card, now all works fine.

It went a lot smoother than I thought it would..
No problem at all was able to send and recieve right away with no waiting.
So I guess I really can't bitch about it as much as I would like to...

It was alright for me on my 3G S. You could tell when the network was being bombarded yesterday, though. All is well now.
One friend actually sent me a picture and this is what I got. Anyone else get this too?

We ought to hand it to AT&T - they did it. They said Friday early afternoon and they made that deadline. I see a bunch of whiners and crybabies who moan over everything and when what they moan about gets fixed or takes place they disappear instead of doing the right thing and which is to say good job.

I agree, well said.

I agree as well. AT&T may suck at some things, but I can make a phone call when needed and that's what matters most. It's a cell phone.
Why do people care so much about MMS? I don't understand it. Sending small crappy pictures to one another?
