VMWare Fusion 2.06 hits the streets
VMWare has pushed out another update to Fusion, the popular virtualization app.Version 2.06 was released yesterday. The 289 MB download includes multiple fixes for running Fusion in a 32-bit Snow Leopard environment. The release includes enhancements for better 3D performance on Macs with Nvidia cards under Snow Leopard.
There are also the usual assortment of other bug fixes.
You can download the update here for free if you're a registered Fusion user. You can get detailed release notes from VMWare at this page. Users who upgrade should note that VMWare Tools does not automatically update when you do the upgrade. You'll have to install the tools from the Fusion menu bar.
When I opened my older version of Fusion this morning I was not alerted to the update, which was a bit of a surprise. Your mileage may vary, so I and am passing the info along to you in case you don't get flagged on it.
Happy downloading.

Fusion still seems a bit sluggish to me when running it on Snow Leopard. Oh well, I just ended up buying a PC (seriously, I did!)

What did you buy? What software is important enough for you to spring for an entire system to run it?!!? (no negativity implied at all) I run parallels at work to run some admin software they can't be bothered to write for Mac, I like it 50 times better than fusion.... But seriously, I'm curious...what PC did you buy??

Same here. Since upgrading to 10.6 my VMWare Fusion install has been running horribly slowly - in fact unusable. This upgrade has made no difference. My next step will be to install XP again in case it's a problem with running an existing image under the upgraded OSX. Very annoying...

Apparently there are driver problems with Boot Camp partitions, causing much of these performance problems. See the Known Problems for 2.0.6

I don't know if it's just wishful thinking, but things were running much snappier in Fusion with the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 R2 (which is essentially Windows 7...three cheers for Microsoft handing it out to students for free!). Seemed like a world of difference compared to 32-bit Vista.

Good for you. I do IT at work and using remote desktop connection from my mac pro is fast and reliable. it also doesn't hog my resources. I rarely use my vmware when I can just pull up a server from the closet to get my tasks done.

I too am frustrated with my performance on the newer version of VMware. I have been so tempted to use my Mac as a boat anchor and switch back over to a PC.

I'm on a 3.0 build that works great on SL 64bit.

More info? Is this public or private beta? Running 64-bit here, this update means nothing to me >_

I believe private beta Version 3.0.0 (193526) Check into it.

How do you get ahold of the Private Beta?

Google.com will give you some great hints if you search for VM Fusion Version 3.0.0 (193526)

How ridiculous is it that a hypervisor is 200mb?

This won't install for me. I double click on install vmware fusion, installer opens but no windows pop up. Is this something wrong with my system or with the file? Any suggestions? Thanks.

there is a new piracy detection that basically shuts down the install. looks like you may have showed your cards. j/k

The 291MB download includes Mcafee antivirus bloatware.
If you don't need or want that, the Fusion "Light" download is only 192MB.
Choose wisely.
