iLickit might not be sanitary, but brings new meaning to 'oleophobic'
If you're the kind of person who complains in the comments whenever we post a useless app, then just move right on from this weekend post (or go check out Paradise Monkeys, it actually looks like a good one). But as weird and pointless as this app may be, we have to give the folks behind this iLickIt game credit -- they really took the multitouch screen to a place it probably shouldn't go. The idea is that you get a plate of food from Grandma, and then you have to lick it clean... by actually licking your iPhone or iPod touch. No thanks.
Actually, iLickIt isn't the first app that's asked you to lick something that's been in your pocket (and who knows where) all day long -- there's other ice cream-licking related apps on the store already. But its claim to the very first "iPhone game you play with your tongue" may actually be legit -- it actually times how long it takes you to lick up the food and turns it into a little game. Though we can't really recommend it, it is coming to an App Store near you, so just in case your tongue hasn't had enough to do lately (and yes, I'll just let that one go), there you have it.

Oh please Richard, as I quote your very words,
http://www.tuaw.com/profile/902577/
"This is the perfect computer for the little lady to find recipes on during her break time from ironing and cleaning the house."
I think I am going to report that one because it is chauvinistic, and I could be a woman that would be very offended by that saying if it was directed toward me.

If you are going to post reviews about iPhone apps at least make the videos in a format iPhone can play.
WRT to the redneck comment, this was probably not the right place to get on a soapbox about it. However, most of you missed the poster's point though. It wasn't about that joking about rednecks is bad but rather the double standard and racial inequality we have as evidenced by the fact that one cannot publically joke about any segment of the population except whites. In a truly equal society it would be open season on any ethnic group or race but, in America the so called "minorities" will publically have you for lunch if one makes any politically incorrect statement about them. If you don't agree with this I dare you to post a joke about blacks or Hispanics the let's see how much hate mail you get.
Anyway, this is not the place for such discussions.

While written very well, I think your post is essentially attempting to state that Redneck is an ethnic group or race. That appears to be in dispute which puts the point of your entire post in question.

Aw come on. Don't you think this would be a mega hit if you could lick the pants off of Mick Jagger?

Let's fair!
I don't think that an iFart application (and actually 95% of AppStore apps) would be more useful than practicing iLickit. Just ask your girlfriend! :)

this is really a danger. i tried licking my phone to see if it works. it does, but now i have a sore growing in my mouth. i am not kidding. this is the worst idea for an app ever.

as I see the developers are smarter than we are, folks!
I found it on the official site: ilickit.halihow.com
ADVICE:
Even all of our personal stuffs are as clean as we are, if you feel that your iPhone is not really hygienic, clean it or just use kitchen wrap as we did during the tests and video session. Or you can use any kind of plastic foil or bag (not to pull on head but on the iPhone )

I certainly hope Apple will start to clamp down on 'updates' to paid products that remove features. Frankly, it's almost unbelievable that a company would stoop as low as stripping functionality from a PAID product as part of an 'upgrade', only to charge for it again.

@Richard: He's not using the term in a derogatory manner, and it doesn't seem that anyone else really was offended by it, judging both by the comments here and seeing that you're the only one who reported it.
'Redneck' does not refer to a minority ethnic group or race, it is a reference to a stereotype, not really much different from using 'geek', 'nerd', or even 'fanboy' to imply somone that fits those stereotypes. We wouldn't remove comments that use any of those words, I don't see how this would be any different.
And, as bdahl pointed out, your comment history suggests you're no stranger to making blanket statements based on stereotypes, even if only meant in fun, so you'd think that a simple, humorous reference in a comment wouldn't call for writing letters to demand its removal.
He has a right to voice his opinion, just as you do. We don't typically interfere or remove comments unless something is just blatantly offensive to a wide range of people or otherwise causes problems (such as instructing a user to do something unsafe to their computer, spamming, etc.) It's fine if you don't appreciate his comment, just vote it down and move on. :-)
