Doubletwist introduces in-app music store powered by Amazon

TechCrunch says the store's simplicity is actually a selling point -- iTunes has ballooned up to do way more than just sell music, and in Doubletwist it's much more straightforward. Here's the other bonus for Mac users: while we originally had to wait for an app release, the music store is currently only available on the Mac version of the software. A PC version is coming soon.
It's doubtful Doubletwist will replace iTunes for many people, given all of the various things iTunes does for a Mac user. But then again, if you are using the Amazon MP3 store with any frequency, Doubletwist is probably worth a look: it's a free download on the website.

Looks like a direct clone of iTunes. Not very innovative to me. They could at least change the side bar to look different than iTunes. They even copied the all caps titles on the sections and the fonts look identical.

that was probably intentional - people will be less "afraid" of a familiar interface- more likely to keep using if they don't have to learn a new app.

God forbid the application use a system-wide component and look consistent with the rest of OS X!

The iTunes sidebar is not a system wide component, it has to be custom made for each app. Nice try though

It's on the finder (and iCal, Mail, iPhoto). I'd say that's pretty much system wide and consistent with the Mac OS X look.

If I can find a way to combine DoubleTwist with the "Automatically Add to iTunes" doohicky and we are onto a winner for competition for the iTunes Store. Now if 7Digital can just join the party things wll be rockin'

Shame the store function appears to be Amazon USA only.
