It is not going to be a tablet. They would save that for a keynote. They would not simply add it to the online store and say, "Hey, we has a tablet now".
Major design updates I think they will also save for keynotes. If they do update anything, it will simply be small internal updates to existing products.

Macs (restyled iMac, speed bumped mini, storage bumped aTV) will all be rolled out next week to coincide with the Windows 7 release. Nothing to be too excited about unless you've been holding off the last couple weeks on a purchase or are a uber fan child that just can't wait to see all the new "I'm a mac... I'm upgrading to w7 and it's taking me hours..." commercials.

If some new Macs are introduced right now, they are surely just speed bumps. They'll introduce on a Friday and hope the news gets buried over the weekend.

i agree that a tablet would get a keynote for sure. a speed bump, inclusion of blu-ray or SD, form redesign would get at least a top of the morning press release and the store would have been down and back up in time for the general start of business at 10am Eastern with the stores likely getting the new stuff over the next couple of days.
however, even with a spec bump they would never bury it into the weekend. they would want it to drive folks to the stores. so they announce on tues/weds that shipping out and available by the weekend is this cool new stuff. and here are the discounts on the old stuff which are good now.

I agree with KomputarGuy. I can't help but feeling hopeful every time the Apple-store goes down. It's almost just a maintenance, though.

I just got turned away from the Apple Store in Seattle. I was going to buy a new Mac Mini and was told they were "sold out". My guess is new Minis are coming out!

3:30 on a friday is NOT a usual time for scheduled maintenance. Imagine the Apple store kicking everyone out at 3pm to mop the floors. Yeah... no.
Either something broke and there's a room full of Admins going mental right now, or they're adding something.
