Use Spotlight as a reference tool. Type any word in the Spotlight box and one of the top entries will be a definition. Click on it, and it will bring up the dictionary application to check the word in either the dictionary, thesaurus, Apple database, or Wikipedia.

Does anyone know why Apple TV
doesn't allow you to connect to and record TV shows like a PVR. I know this has been a desired feature in the device and that Apple
is aware of how easy it would be (technically) to implement.
What I'm wondering is what others think as to why it hasn't Been done yet. Is it a regulatory issue with the network stations? Why has Elgato
been able to do it with iTV?

Apple sells TV shows on iTunes. By recording on your AppleTV, you've circumvented one of their revenue generators. Apple is pretty good about making sure they continue to make money, so it doesn't seem like they'd go for this.

The ATV gets a lot of bad press but I love mine. An update is long iverdue, though. iTunesU for one thing.

I love my apple tv. Just don't ask it to do more than it was designed for.
I would like to see them add functionality to the USB port so that I could connect some external storage...then I would'nt have to stream my library....here's wishing.

The latest version of ATVFlash makes it pretty easy to use a USB drive as primary storage. I now have a 750gb drive hooked up and iTunes can see it and recognize all 750gb.

Holy crap! Your atv can read the entire 750 gigs??? Every last one?? Shit son why don't they put this fabulous technology into my iPod so that my 16gig is actually 16 gigs and not just 14???

It runs XBMC like a champ, I have it set to pick up media from my iMac, (about 1.5TB of video) over upnp. Boxee, on the other hand, is a travesty.

The AppleTV is the one device that should definitely get Blu-Ray.
At the absolute least, put a DVD player in it. It needs to evolve to do more, including becoming a good general purpose content streamer, as the market is becoming flooded with more capable and more affordable devices.
C'mon Apple. Bring some of us back to AppleTV!

That's like asking Apple to put a CD player in your iPod. All digital, no media is the way.

I agree, we will never see DVD or DVR features as listed above. I do love my apple tv but would not buy another one. If I wasn't planning on getting a Mac Mini for my HTPC, I would definitely, look at Popcorn Hour. It seems to do all that apple tv does (minus the online purchasing of songs and movies) but what I would use it for is to stream my 400 movies and shows, + it has bluray, all for $300. Crazy.
Apple needs to get with it as far as the ATV goes, or just discontinue it.

I also love my Apple TV (I have 3 at home) but still wondering though why the software does not have a "Refresh Library" function.
Often when I add content to iTunes the Apple TV does not see the new content until I reboot ...

I have the same wish. However, the new version of itunes has a refresh icon next to each ATV (I have 2) mounted.
Or, just quit and relaunch itunes. Do you really need to re-boot to sync new content?

On your computer in iTunes, if you hit sync again it will refresh what is on your Apple TV even what you just stream, usually takes 30 seconds. Rebooting is not necessary.

iTunes will allow you to refresh but between my Apple TV and my computer there are two floors in the house :-)
The idea is that one could refresh (streaming not necessarily syncing) straight from the ATV

I would love to see Apple introduce an all you can eat plan for movies and tv shows. In the UK we don't have any VOD companies based on a monthly subscription. I would happily spend £18 ($30) for this service and scrap the satellite based movie channels. I really don't want want to have to invest in bluray and rentals by post.

Maybe it's not right for everyone, but I love it, especially since installing Boxee. But I use it more than anything else I have plugged into my TV.
