Men in kilts: video from the Aberdeen, Scotland Apple Store opening
TUAW fan George sent us a link to some video he shot earlier today at the grand opening of the Apple Store Union Square in Aberdeen, Scotland.
The video is fun; not only is there the usual high-fiving and applause as customers enter the new store, but one of the Apple employees is wearing a kilt and there was a kilted piper entertaining the folks in line.
In other Apple Store news, reader Christophe pointed us to exclusive photos on Macgeneration of the interior of the new Louvre store in Paris, France, which is scheduled to open on November 7th, 2009. That store will be the first Apple Store in France.
Apple's plans to dominate the European computer and consumer electronics market continue to bear watching, as these new Apple Stores are bound to increase international sales to impressive new levels.

There's a gentleman working at one of the Apple Stores in the Atlanta area that wears a skirt and makeup. Wait, that's not the same thing is it?

I lived in Scotland for 2 years. I love that they are getting a store in Aberdeen. Awesome.

I don't understand why when people talk about a store opening in another UK country, they say City, UK, but if it is north of a little crumbly wall then it has to be in "Scotland" and if you forget to mention it then everyone will come after you with an axe.

Also, what are they queueing up for? All of the products available in the store have been available online before and usually at lower prices than Apple charges.

Because for many, this is the first time they will get to use an Apple Mac. Remember, this is only the 2nd store from Apple to open in Scotland.
Shock people want to actually see a computer they wouldn't be able to play around with online.

Most of the male staff at the Glasgow store wore kilts on the opening day too. I actually thought the Kilts worked quite well with the Apple tshirts!
It really bugged me when they did the cheering and clapping thing, I'm walking into a shop! Get over it!

Can Apple remind me why Aberdeen has an Apple Store, Glasgow has an Apple Store and Edinburgh, the nation's capital, does not? I'm sure they'll blame the trams...

Apple plans to "dominate" the European computer market? What a laugh! They are barely a player here in the US. In Europe they are a tiny slice of the market. Good luck "dominating".

I was at the launch today. Really nice store and i might upload some pics later. And yes, i have a mac and i live in aberdeen but its great just as the launch of the new products to have a play first like the magic mouse.

While I was in the queue to get in, another shopper on the other side of the barrier was confused as to why Apple had a long queue of people and no other shop did.
"Is everything half price here today or something?" he said.
"No", I replied, "it's just an Apple store."
The Next store opened today (as did the whole shopping centre) while the Apple queue was waiting outside. A ribbon was cut, balloons set off, cheers...but no one was waiting to get in.
