Updated iPhone 3G, 3GS pricing and availability for Canada announced
For those of you in Canada, good news. The cell carriers Telus and Bell have announced pricing and availability for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. In addition, Rogers will be announcing an update to its pricing.Telus is offering four plan levels with three extras each to chose from, for a total of twelve different plan options. Each plan provides subsidized iPhone pricing of $99CAD for the 8GB iPhone 3G (black), $199CAD for the 16GB iPhone 3G S (black/white), and $299CAD for the 32GB iPhone 3G S (black/white).
The actual plans from Telus do not change with respect to the iPhone you choose. The prices begin at $50CAD for 150 minutes and 500 MB data and move up to $100CAD for 500 minutes and 3GB data; all plans include a 36-month contract term. Additionally, all plans include mobile tethering with the iPhone. All plans excluding the entry-level $50CAD/mo. plan include an option for unlimited messaging.
Bell has also announced their pricing and availability; actual iPhone pricing is the same as the Telus offering ranging from $99CAD for the 8GB iPhone 3G to $299CAD for the 32GB iPhone 3G S.
Bell's monthly plans start at $55CAD and include 300 minutes with 1GB data (tethering included) and increase up to $95CAD including 500 minutes with and 3GB data. As with Telus, all plans include a 36-month contract. Unlike Telus, however, the Bell plans include unlimited Wi-Fi at any Starbucks location.
Not one to be left out of all the press buzz, Rogers may be announcing a new plan for $95CAD/mo. An anonymous tipster reports that the Rogers plan will include 700 minutes and 1GB data with tethering included. The plan will also feature unlimited messaging.
Things are definitely heating up in Canada for iPhone users. Each provider is offering a little something different in terms of minutes, data, and extras. As always, don't forget to consider your coverage area, which iPhone in Canada has helpfully compared for you here.
While I don't live in Canada myself, I am definitely jealous of all the competition going on. I would love to see three US carriers with the iPhone all competing for my pocketbook.

No offense, but I'm not believing any of this until Bell announces it themselves. Unless Bell confirms it, it's just rumor.

You could just check bell.ca and see the iphone announcement on their homepage.
I was hoping that by going to bell and telus, the plans would drop in price.. they haven't. The new Rogers plan is more expensive than the ones they've had in the past.I'm not sure why the author wishes he lived in Canada, we're getting screwed over with these 1GB plans compared to what the states get with AT&T.

I see nothing on either Bell's page or Telus' page showing the plans available. Telus shows the purchase price. Bell says "Sign up to learn more".

So the increased competition is driving the prices of all carrier. Its just thats its the wrong way.
ie. My bro has Telus Unlimited Data Plan for $100 where I have the Rogers' 6GB for $30
oh well its nice now that you DONT have to go to rogers to get an iphone if u dont want to, or if u have a plan or a bundle with another company.
Anyway we will see if any of this is confirmed on Nov. 5.

As I've learned in the process of switching from a Telus WinMo phone to a Rogers iPhone, neither Bell nor Telus offers true unlimited plans. In reality, their "unlimited" plans have a cap at 5 GB.

In a situation where there are few providers, lots of consumers, and a high barrier to entry, it is in the providers best interest to all charge about the same amount of money, and to keep prices high, as this maximizes the profits of all the providers.
They don't even need to collude to do this, just play follow the leader with price increases.

Don't get to excited. The cell phone companies in Canada have a long history of price gouging and phenomenally poor service.

Not only that but the big three are pretty much in collusion on pricing and contracts etc. Maybe they each differ a little bit but you will never see one of them actually try to drive competition by offering two year contracts instead of 3 years or really dropping pricing. There is no real competition in Canada for wireless services.

Wow. Never would have guessed when competition finally arrived to the market that they would be priced *higher* than fido/Rogers. These are awful prices and make no sense at all unless their network really just isn't ready to handle it.
I hate fido and would have switched over for even the same plan price if they gave even a slight bonus like a new handset or half off the switching fee. No way I'm gonna switch for one sixth the data at 30% more per month? WTF? What are they thinking? You'd have to be a moron to take that deal.
fido is basically 70 a month for 6GB of data and all the standard phone junk that no one ever uses. If they want me to switch they actually have to offer me a reason to.

I think they might be price fixing because all of their prices are really close. Like within $5 dollars.
It's funny that people say At&t is bad. I would never use a phone in Canada, these prices are RAPE.

I'm just really dissapointed at how low the data caps are. I'd also like to know if they're still going to charge me $7.99/month on top of this for caller ID.
