New Apple Switcher-Cam ad will take over online media
The newest Get A Mac, ad from Apple will take over the front page of a number of sites this month. Created by TBW\Media Arts Lab, the ad takes over the page as PC chases switchers through various switcher-cam displays.
Thanks to Ivan for sending it in, and Ads of the World for hosting it.

Yet another Mac ad that tells me absoutely no benefits of getting a Mac.
"Customer Service": We all know that drops to zero as soon as your market share increases

You mean like iPod customer support is rubbish because of its 70% market share? Oh, that's right, it's not.
Jordan said 10:02AM on 11-03-2009
...an ipod is a tiny bit different than a 2000 dollar computer...
vandil said 10:12AM on 11-03-2009
Don't be so dramatic. Macs retail starting at $599
Jordan said 10:44AM on 11-03-2009
Alright, you're right. $600 dollar computer, with upgrades to make it anything useful you're looking at $8-900, add in keyboard, mouse, monitor and you're looking at around $1200. That's unless you get an actual Apple monitor then you're looking at at least $1700
Go to the Apple store and configure it, that's what it costs.
Gee, that 600 dollar computer got expensive quite fast.

If you aren't happy with a mac, then switch. Nobody is forcing you to have one and complain. I've had some good luck and bad luck with my Al. MacBook, but that is par for the course when you deal with computers. I am happy I have a Mac and don't see returning to Windows or LInux anytime soon. With the exception of one situation customer service has been a joy to work with. The one time things got a bit frustrating I ended up getting a new computer out of the deal so it was worth the effort.

Hey Jordan, the idea behind a mini is that you won't need to buy a keyboard, mouse, or monitor. You should already have these with your Windoze machine. I have a $499 mini with 4 GB of Ram and it blows away my Dell that I use at work when running XP. And as Khalil said..."you can always switch back."
Jordan said 12:34PM on 11-03-2009
You are correct, that is the idea behind the mini, but it doesn't work.
The people who are going to buy a mini are the ones who don't want to spend much, right?
Therefore those people are the ones with the older computers. They are the ones using the non-usb keyboard and mouse. They are the ones with the VGA monitor. Do these people know they can buy adapters, or will they? Most likely not. They're not the computer savvy. They'll look at the price and go buy a PC.
To buy a Mac Mini that has 4GB of Ram and a 320GB HD is about 800 dollars. You can do much better than that getting a PC WITH a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
It amazes how much Apple fans think you HAVE to love everything about Apple to use Apple products. This is false. I'm not complaining about USING a Mac, I'm just pointing out some very truthful facts abouts Macs. This has nothing to do with me.

Jordan, you're done.

Jordan - A lame flamer that uses a typical strawman argument to prove all his 'points'. Dont know what a stawman argument is? Wiki it.
Stop being a lame. *points finger*
Jordan said 2:32PM on 11-03-2009
I'm not flaming, but I will say this is what's wrong with Apple fans. They can't accept facts. What I've stated is true. Accept it.

"We all know that [customer service] drops to zero as soon as your market share increases"
Well, the iPod rebuttal pretty much knocks this fact down. I think it's a rather a weak argument to write off that condition as an exception due to the iPod being cheaper than a Mac. I mean, I haven't done the research, but I imagine that a product that comes at relatively low cost and high quantity would be at *more* risk for weakened customer service. No?
Also, for what it's worth, I probably would never buy a mini as a desktop machine, but I'd definitely consider it for a home server...and I would not shed a tear if the AppleTV were to fizzle away tomorrow.

I really like this ad. I think the webpage ads they have done recently have been much better than the regular TV ads.

Although a Mac guy myself, when I upgraded to Win 7 I didn't have to move any files anywhere, I don't really see the justification for these new 'migration' type ads.

While I agree with you, they're supposed to appeal to people who are still using Windows XP since you can't do an upgrade install from XP to 7.
It's funny though, because anybody who wants the best possible installation knows that you always do a clean install with the OS, this goes for Windows, OSX, Linux. Doesn't matter what it is, always do a clean install. By those standards you would need to move files no matter what OS you use.
Moving files really isn't that big of deal. I'm sure there's people out there that don't know how, but seriously if you're installing an OS and not buying it pre-installed on a computer, then you know how to move files around. This is a really weak adertising agenda from Apple.
This next statement is in no way meant to be flaming, but I kind of feel that if this is Apple's only angle towards advertising against Windows 7, that it's really pathetic. Since Windows 7 is really that good that even Apple can't find any reason to advertise against, shouldn't Apple just stop and start advertising FOR their own systems, as in showing what they can do and why they're better?
