MobileMe is MobileSlow today
Several of my colleagues here at TUAW and other people around the country are seeing some slowness and timeouts from MobileMe mail today. The web interface seems to be working faster than the Apple Mail app, but even the web is slow. No communication from Apple support about what the problem is, but something clearly is wrong for some customers. Others may be doing fine.
I'm not seeing any reports from users on the Apple support board yet, but I expect they'll be flowing soon. Several MobileMe customers are seeing repeated timeouts from Apple servers.
Hopefully this will be just a short lived glitch, and not an epic failure.
Update: Service seems to have been restored for as of 3:15 EST, but still no word on the MobileMe support site.

MobileMe has also seemingly *lost* my calendars, which I will try and re-sync later, when I get home. Nothing like that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you open it up and there's nothing there!

Haven't tried the web portal, but Mail has been painfully slow, or has flat-out rejected my requests to send email.

Why would you pay to renew it? Definitely not worth it.

2 reasons - the way it keeps my iPhone, MacBook & work computers all synced up, and the find my phone feature, not that Ill ever need it, but it's still nice knowing it's there.

It's definitely worth it when it's working. It's gotten better since .mac, even thought I'm not too crazy about the interface.

Find my iphone sounds real nice, in theory. I've considered it just for that feature alone, but then when I realized that I would be paying 200 dollars over the course of a 2 year contract for a phone I'm probably never going to lose, and I realized it's not worth it.

While I am in total agreement that the sync function of MobileMe was excellent, and I miss that already, I dumped the service this month simply because the web mail service was just so phenomenally bad that it drove me nuts. The perpetual random reloading of the screen and occasional in ability to send an email that I had composed was the straw that broke the camels back. Why the likes of Yahoo! and Google do not have these problems yet Apple does with a paid service is quite beyond me and it occurred to me that it is really stupid to pay money for something that annoys me.
Frankly, I tend to wish the old .mac service would have come back. It might not have been fresh and funky but it didn't annoy me either and there's a lot to be said for that.

I agree! As far as web mail, MobileMe is downright snail paced and pathetic compared to Yahoo or Google!! And DropBox kicks sand in the face of the antique, iDisk...

Contacts on me.com and on iPhone were garbage. Duplicated or triplicated ( and some were mix and match from other contacts! ). Went to the System Preferences and repushed up my contacts and all is well again ( for now ).
It's bad but at least the copy on my MBP was clean. Shame on you Apple.

Oh, and I just checked a calendar event added earlier today... not on my iPhone despite push. I would check the website, but it's just spinning on "Loading Events"

I have to ask...in your small worlds, did it ever cross your minds that you might be having an internet provider issue? Trashing MobileMe seems to be a fun pass time, but from what I've experienced most of the service complaints end up being localized. As for the other complaints I see listed here, most of them look like operator error. But that's fine. Stay off and don't re-subscribe. More bandwidth for those who appreciate and know what we're doing!

@sfschier
No, internet is not an issue. I was on a dual homed OC3 and everything else was fine. Slowless does not explain how MobileMe managed to mangle my Address book almost beyond recognition requiring a resync from a clean source. Also leaving the Calendar page up for 5 minutes without a response from the site counts as slow.
As of now, on a different internet connection, Calendars are still not working on me.com and still not syncing with my iPhone. Switching between views shows a skeleton of my calendar that is hardly complete or up-to-date.
Tried different internet connection and different browsers, is there any other diagnostics you want me to run before I can claim that MobileMe is screwed today?

I was just about to pull the trigger on renewing the subscription. Got the Family Pack, which makes it harder for me to deal with, since other people in my family are dependent on it.
Hope they fix this up. I just noticed some of my folders are getting screwed up.
I set up a folder called "Networking" under a folder called "Personal." Now my iPhone shows the proper "Personal\Networking" folder, but also a "PersonalNetworking" folder in the root of my mailbox. Has this happened to anyone else?
