Apple previews Broadway store for press
It's scheduled to open to the public on Saturday morning, but Apple gave a sneak peek of its newest US retail outlet to press and photographers this morning -- no, I wasn't invited, and yes, I did ask nicely. Gothamist is there, though, and snapping some snazzy pictures of the grand glass roof and huge sales space. The word that comes to mind is 'dramatic,' and then the next word that comes to mind is 'big.'
How big is this new store? Ron Johnson tells the site that the ground floor could fit eleven of the iconic glass cubes from the 5th Ave store. Yowza. More pictures here from ifoAppleStore cover the store's unveiling.
If you're planning to attend the store opening on Saturday, drop us a line or send in a link to your photos & videos.

The only thing that comes to my mind after seeing those photos is "Hipsters." I don't understand how blurry badly composed pictures are supposed to show us what the new store is like. Anyone know where some real pictures of the new store can be found?

I'm fairly certain that these pictures are real pictures. They may not be your cup of tea, but they use conventional technology (like selective focus or lens distortion) to highlight specific things in some of the pictures, or to give a better sense of scale, but that doesn't detract from what is a fairly good shoot of the store.

Oops. It just occurred to me that you might be referring to the second set from ifoAppleStore. Those are pretty bad.

Wow, looking now there are plenty of great photos. When I first replied there were only about five badly cropped and (intentionally) blurry photos. I take back my previous statement.

In fact, it looks like they deleted the two main pictures I was referring to...

I think the photos you are referring to are actually from my iPhone. The one of the exterior is actually using the Photoshop app for iPhone and the staircase one is just a straight shot.
In the effort of speed, I fired a couple of shots with my iPhone and sent them to post. We then continued as the event went on, and afterwards, to update the post with more SLR type purty imagery.

Although Apple's retail strategy has really worked for them, they really need to be careful opening up too many stores. If sales every start to slump a little bit they might not be able to maintain so many, and that's gonna be bad news bears for their upscale image. The brilliance of their Apple stores is that not everyone can go every day. It's a real treat to visit an Apple store and if they start posting up on every corner like a Walgreens it's going to get a little boring.

I will be attending the opening. I should arrive around 2 or 3am on Saturday. Another rainy campout in NYC (I camped out for 5th Ave as well)

This is nice. Finally a location where I can take a train I live near and be right at one of the stores. I find it amazing that they managed to open 3 stores in Manhattan and all of them are inconvenient for me (I used to live just a few blocks from the 14th Street one, but I moved before it was built).
Anybody know if this space is where the old Tower Records used to be?

ex-Victoria's Secret.
More traffic, more people, not fun.

This place looks like a lot of fun to drive a truck through the front door. Hope they have high curbs.

Is Apple turning into Starbucks? Will there be an Apple store on every corner? LOL
